Göran Bror Benny Andersson () ( born 16 December 1946 ), known professionally as Benny Andersson, is a Swedish musician, composer, former member of the Swedish musical group ABBA ( 1972 – 1983 ), and co-composer of the musicals Chess, Kristina från Duvemåla, and Mamma Mia !.

From the late 1980s, Andersson had worked on an idea for an epic Swedish language musical based on his affection for traditional folk music, and in October 1995, Kristina från Duvemåla premiered in Sweden.

English language versions of the songs from Kristina från Duvemåla ( which is in process of being translated ) is also prémiered.

ABBA-members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus have been very successful in musical theatre, with their international hit Mamma Mia !, as well as Chess, and Kristina från Duvemåla, which was a huge success in Sweden.

Watson was one of the principal singers ( in the role of Karl-Oskar ) in the English world premiere of the Swedish musical Kristina från Duvemåla ( Kristina from Duvemåla ) by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus at Carnegie Hall in New York on 23 and 24 September 2009.

The album is a collection of folk melodies from Finland and Sweden, also including a medley from the musical Kristina från Duvemåla by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of ABBA.

Her big breakthrough occurred in 1995 when she created the title role in Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus ' Kristina från Duvemåla, which she played on and off for nearly four years ( during the musical's entire run ).

On 11 June 2009, it was announced that Helen would perform in the English version of Kristina från Duvemåla ( outside Sweden called Kristina ) in a concert version of the musical at Carnegie Hall, New York, on 23 and 24 September 2009.

Hit recordings include " Du måste finnas " (" You Have to Be There ") from the symphonic musical Kristina från Duvemåla ( Kristina ), " Vår sista dans " (" If this is Our Last Dance ") with Benny Andersson's Orkester, " Gabriellas sång " ( from film Så som i himmelen aka As It Is In Heaven ), " Jag vet vad han vill " ( aka " I Know Him So Well ") from musical Chess, " Det är vi ändå " ( with Tommy Körberg and Benny Anderssons Orkester ), and " Du är min man " (" You Are My Man ") with Benny Anderssons Orkester, among others.

A few years later, however, Dagens Nyheter reviewer Marcus Boldemann wrote that " Kristina från Duvemåla is not an A-class musical work ".

Counting all three runs, which were almost continuous, interrupted only by summer vacations and hiatuses due to the production's physical moving, Kristina från Duvemåla ran for nearly four years ( more than 650 performances in total ), making it the second longest running musical in Swedish history.

Andersson currently performs with his own band of 16 musicians, BAO ; " Benny Anderssons Orkester " (" Benny Andersson's orchestra "), utilising the vocal talents of fellow Swedes Helen Sjöholm ( from Kristina from Duvemåla ) and Tommy Körberg ( of Chess fame ), with lyrics to new material sometimes written by his song-writing partner and best friend of 40 years, Björn Ulvaeus.
