He served as the Secretary of Government in the cabinet of president Adolfo López Mateos from 1958 – 1964.

Adolfo López Mateos ( 26 May 1910 – 22 September 1969 ) was a Mexican politician affiliated with the Institutional Revolutionary Party ( PRI ) who served as President of Mexico from 1958 to 1964.

Declaring his political philosophy to be “ left within the Constitution ,” López Mateos was the first left-wing politician to hold the presidency since Lázaro Cárdenas.

According to official records, López Mateos was born in Atizapán de Zaragoza, a small town in the state of México, though at a young age his family moved to Mexico City upon his father's death.

López Mateos was the first chairman of the Organization Committee of the 1968 Summer Olympics and called the meeting that led to the creation of the World Boxing Council.

Tackling poverty became one of the priorities of López Mateos ’ s government, and during his presidency social welfare investments reached a historical peak of 19. 2 % of total investment.

López Mateos was succeeded as president by the conservative Gustavo Ordaz in 1964.

Mexico increased its international presence during López Portillo: in addition to becoming the world's fourth oil exporter, Mexico restarted relations with the post Franco-Spain in 1977, allowed Pope John Paul II to visit Mexico, welcomed American president Jimmy Carter and broke relations with Somoza and supported the Sandinista National Liberation Front in its rebellion against the United States supported government.

Texas Annexation of 1845: The independent Republic of Texas long sought to join the U. S., despite Mexican claims and the warning by Mexican leader Antonio López de Santa Anna warned that this would be " equivalent to a declaration of war against the Mexican Republic.

In 2012, the party is running a write-in presidential campaign with candidates Stephen Durham for U. S. president and Christina López for vice-president.

López played high school basketball at famed Rice High School in New York City, where he would follow New York high school players Kareem Abdul Jabbar ( Lew Alcindor ) and Kenny Anderson in becoming one of the most highly touted recruits in U. S. high school history.

However Zachary Taylor, who had renounced filibustering as a valid means of U. S. expansion, took steps against López.
