The album Dreamweapon: An Evening of Contemporary Sitar Music by the band Spacemen 3 is influenced by La Monte Young's concept of Dream Music, evidenced by their inclusion of his notes on the jacket.

A major influence on Reed's recording, and an important source for an understanding of Reed's seriousness with the album, was the mid-1960s drone music work of La Monte Young's Theater of Eternal Music ( whose members included John Cale, Tony Conrad, Angus Maclise and Marian Zazeela ).< ref > The album listed ( misspelling included ) " Drone cognizance and harmonic possibilities vis a vis Lamont 74465 99752 2 ( reissue ).

For instance, La Monte Young's " Draw a straight line and follow it "; Robert Watts ' Trace, in which the musicians set fire to the music on their music stands ; Yoko Ono's Wall Piece, in which performers bang their heads against the wall ; or Nam June Paik's classic " Creep into the vagina of a living whale.

Already in 1965 the art historian Barabara Rose had named La Monte Young's Dream Music, Morton Feldman's characteristically soft dynamics, and various unnamed composers " all, to a greater or lesser degree, indebted to John Cage " as examples of " minimal art ", but did not specifically use the expression " minimal music ".
