Quasi-empiricism was developed by Imre Lakatos, inspired by the philosophy of science of Karl Popper.

The Lakatos Award is given annually for a contribution to the philosophy of science which is widely interpreted as outstanding.
In 1986, van Fraassen received the Lakatos Award for his contributions to the philosophy of science.
It was originally developed building on work in the philosophy of science by Karl Popper and Imre Lakatos.
