In 1933, the United States government established Muroc Air Base ( from an original founder name, Effie Corum, spelled backwards ) six miles ( 10 km ) north of Lancaster in Kern County, now known as Edwards Air Force Base.

Her brother, the Duke of Clarence, had been executed by Edward IV in 1478 ; Edward himself had died of illness in 1483 and finally, her younger brother Richard, who took the throne as Richard III was in 1485 killed at the Battle of Bosworth by the leader of the House of Lancaster, Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, a cousin and nephew of Henry VI, who went on to become Henry VII, and to marry the daughter of Edward IV, Elizabeth of York.

On 19 May 1426 he was knighted at Leicester by John of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Bedford, the younger brother of Henry V. In October 1429 ( or earlier ) his marriage to Cecily Neville took place.

In 1729, after Wright had petitioned William Penn ’ s son to create a new county, the provincial government took land from Chester County to establish Lancaster County, the fourth county in Pennsylvania.

Henry Tudor declared himself king, took Elizabeth of York, eldest child of Edward IV, as his wife, symbolically uniting the surviving houses of York and Lancaster, and acceded to the throne as Henry VII, founder of the Tudor dynasty which reigned until 1603.

The kin of the border earls took advantage of the confusion in England after the deposition of Richard II by Henry, Duke of Lancaster and harried and forayed into England causing much damage and taking Wark Castle around 13 October 1399.

He made powerful onslaughts on the Church in connection with the Bell and Lancaster controversy, and took a part in the discussions that led to the foundation of the University of London in 1825.

Seeing itself as part of a grand railway network, it encouraged the development of the North Union Railway which took the tracks onward to Preston, and it also invested in the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway and the Caledonian Railway.

In 1461, following the Wars of the Roses, the House of York took the throne from the House of Lancaster and Cambridge's conviction and execution was annulled at the new king's first parliament, according to historian T B Pugh, as " irregular and unlawful ".

Lancaster, who by this time had more or less settled in Australia, took out a legal injunction to stop the band from using the Status Quo name on any records, citing his increasing musical differences with the group, notably during the sessions for the 1983 album Back to Back.

The Battle of Bosworth took place to south of the town in 1485 as the final battle in the Wars of the Roses between the House of Lancaster and the House of York.

Thomas of Lancaster, who was Lincoln's son-in-law and heir, was the king's cousin and the wealthiest nobleman in the realm, but at this point he took a less active part in the reform movement.

He also took part in the conferences at Lancaster House leading up to Kenya's independence, which was achieved within the Commonwealth in December 1963.

He was made Baron Birkett of Ulverston in the County of Lancaster, and took his place in the House of Lords on 20 February 1958.

Later, another restored Lancaster, repatriated from a French island in the South Pacific, took its place.
