* 1917 – World War I: Arabian troops led by T. E. Lawrence (" Lawrence of Arabia ") and Auda ibu Tayi capture Aqaba from the Ottoman Empire during the Arab Revolt.

The character was created largely because Lawrence did not serve with any one Arab leader ( aside from Auda ) throughout the majority of the war ; most such leaders were amalgamated in Ali's character.

He played a Greek resistance fighter in The Guns of Navarone ( 1961 ), an aging boxer in Requiem for a Heavyweight, and the Bedouin shaikh Auda abu Tayi in Lawrence of Arabia ( both 1962 ).

In 1917, Lawrence arranged a joint action with the Arab irregulars and forces under Auda Abu Tayi ( until then in the employ of the Ottomans ) against the port city of Aqaba.

Lawrence and Auda left Wedj on 9 May 1917 with a party of 40 men to recruit a mobile camel force from the Howeitat, a Syrian tribe renowned for fighting on camels.

Auda Abu Ta ' yi, T. E. Lawrence and Arab troops rode into Damascus the next day, 1 October.

Col. T. E. Lawrence asked Auda ibu Tayi to allow their group to stray from their course into the Nafud.
