This and other differences, in particular Steiner's vocal rejection of Leadbeater and Besant's claim that Jiddu Krishnamurti was the vehicle of a new Maitreya, or world teacher, led to a formal split in 1912 / 13, when Steiner and the majority of members of the German section of the Theosophical Society broke off to form a new group, the Anthroposophical Society.

In early adolescence, he had a chance encounter with prominent occultist and high-ranking theosophist Charles Webster Leadbeater in the grounds of the Theosophical Society headquarters at Adyar in Madras ( now Chennai ).

Leadbeater was convinced that the boy would become a spiritual teacher and a great orator ; the likely " vehicle for the Lord Maitreya "— in Theosophical doctrine, an advanced spiritual entity periodically appearing on Earth as a World Teacher to guide the evolution of humankind.

Another biographer describes the daily program imposed on him by Leadbeater and his associates, which included rigorous exercise and sports, tutoring in a variety of school subjects, Theosophical and religious lessons, yoga and meditation, as well as instruction in proper hygiene and in the ways of British society and culture.

Charles Webster Leadbeater ( 16 February 1854 – 1 March 1934 ) was an influential member of the Theosophical Society, author on occult subjects and co-initiator with J. I. Wedgwood of the Liberal Catholic Church.

During 1885, Leadbeater traveled with Henry Steel Olcott ( 1832 – 1907 ), first President of the Theosophical Society, to Burma, and Ceylon ( now Sri Lanka ).

Almost simultaneously the son of another Theosophical official in Chicago charged Leadbeater with the same offense without apparently there being any collusion between the two boys.

A factor in this approach was also that initiates in the Theosophical Society, including Leadbeater himself, were expected to remain chaste and not engage in sexual relationships with others.

During 1910, Leadbeater conducted additional research into the so-called akashic records, which he stated that he clairvoyantly inspected at the Theosophical Society headquarters in Adyar.

Leadbeater and Annie Besant ( Theosophical Society Adyar ), equated it with Blavatsky's Kama ( desire ) principle and called it the Emotional body.

The English theosophist received his knowledge from Charles Webster Leadbeater, who communicated with the Theosophical Masters by " astral clairvoyance ".

The LCCI arose from the 1941 schism of the Liberal Catholic Church in the United States, which surrounded the controversy involving American Regionary Bishop Charles Hampton, who wished to keep adherence to Theosophical tenets optional for all clergy, in accordance with the wishes of the church's first two Presiding Bishops, James I. Wedgwood and Charles W. Leadbeater.

Leadbeater and Besant ( Adyar School of Theosophy ), and later Alice Bailey, though, in formalising Theosophical cosmology around 1913, conceived that the etheric plane constituted four higher subplanes of the physical plane.

The Mahatma Letters are letters that were claimed to be written by the Theosophical Mahatmas or Masters of the Ancient Wisdom to certain Theosophists, especially A. P. Sinnett, A. O. Hume, Henry Steel Olcott, Helena Blavatsky, C. W. Leadbeater and others.

Leadbeater ( from, the source states, their research into the " akashic records " at the Theosophical Society headquarters in Adyar ( Tamil Nadu ), India conducted in the summer of 1910 ) as having been the Emperor of Atlantis in 220, 000 BC, ruling from his palace in the capital city, the City of the Golden Gates.

He was subsequently raised under the tutelage of Annie Besant and Leadbeater, leaders of the Society at the time, who believed him to be a " vehicle " for an expected World Teacher.

A commission was appointed by the American Section, but before the meeting Leadbeater resigned from the society to, as he told Olcott, " save the Society from embarrassment.

This school gradually expanded to become Ananda College, which now has more than 6, 000 students and has a building named for Leadbeater.

Then a typewritten, unsigned, undated, cipher-letter was produced ; it had been picked up by a suspicious cleaner on the floor of a flat in Toronto in which Leadbeater had stayed with the second boy and was said to have been written by Leadbeater.

Leadbeater was not interested in defending his position, but in a letter to Annie Besant wrote: " a natural function exists, which in itself is no more wrong than eating or drinking.

This work represents a revision of the Roman Catholic liturgy of his time, for which Leadbeater sought to remove what he regarded as undesirable elements, such as the, in his view, blatant anthropomorphisms and expressions of the fear and wrath of God, which he regarded " as derogatory alike to the idea of a loving Father and to the men He has created in His own image.

Leadbeater also states that an important duty of Sanat Kumara is to participate in an elaborate ritual every Wesak ( the Full Moon of May ) led by Gautama Buddha, and also participated in by the Maitreya ( the being Theosophists identify as Christ ), in which cosmic energy is focused from the " Solar Logos " to Earth in order to keep our planet's cosmic energy in balance.

Leadbeater, Initiation is a process by which " we try to develop ourselves not that we may become great and wise, but that we may have the power and knowledge to work for humanity to the best effect.

In C. W. Leadbeater and Alice Bailey, the physical body is distinguished from the etheric body, which serves as its " blueprint ", and structures of the etheric body, such as chakras, are mirrored in the main glands and nerve ganglia of the physical body.

C. W. Leadbeater claimed that he saw Djwal Khul teleport into a room in which he and Madame Blavatsky were sitting.

In the 20th century, Theosophy was further developed by Annie Besant and Charles Webster Leadbeater, while people like Alice Bailey, Rudolf Steiner and many others, became the source for a whole range of post-theosophical movements such as The Summit Lighthouse.

It was also during his stay in Australia that Leadbeater became the Presiding Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church and co-wrote the Liturgy Book for that denomination, still in use today.

In April 1909, Krishnamurti first met Charles Webster Leadbeater, who claimed clairvoyance.

Leadbeater had noticed Krishnamurti, who frequented the same beach on the Adyar river, and was amazed by the " most wonderful aura he had ever seen, without a particle of selfishness in it.

Leadbeater and a small number of trusted associates undertook the task of educating, protecting, and generally preparing Krishnamurti as the " vehicle " of the expected World Teacher.

Often, he was " asked in later life what he thought would have happened to him if he had not been ' discovered ' by Leadbeater.

At the same time, Leadbeater assumed the role of guide in a parallel, mystical instruction of Krishnamurti ; the existence and progress of this instruction was at the time known only to a select few.

Leadbeater and other Theosophists expected the " vehicle " to have certain paranormal experiences, but were nevertheless mystified by these developments.

His new direction reached a climax in 1929, when he rebuffed attempts by Leadbeater and Besant to continue with the Order of the Star.

Following the dissolution prominent Theosophists turned against Krishnamurti, including Leadbeater who is said to have stated, " the Coming had gone wrong.
