The Hanze University Groningen in the Netherlands established the Geert Hofstede Lecture, a bi-annual conference on topics of intercultural communication in 2004.

In addition, the group organizes the Caltech Lecture Series which offers speakers on a wide range of topics relating to science, psychology, social issues, religion / atheism, skepticism, etc.

The VKI organises up to twelve different one-week Lecture Series with about 50 to 60 participants on specialized topics every year on various fields: industrial applications, turbomachinery, aerospace, aerodynamics, propulsion, aero engine, aeroacoustics, biological flows, large eddy simulation.

The Caltech Lecture Series offers speakers on a wide range of topics relating to science, psychology, social issues, religion / atheism, skepticism, etc.

The Institute is also well regarded for its Shepperd Distinguished Lecture Series, which has brought a variety of internationally recognized individuals, such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Robert McNamara, Ralph Nader, William F. Buckley, Jr., and most recently Malcolm Gladwell to discuss salient political and social topics.

During that time the school inaugurated the Great Preacher Award ( awarded to an outstanding homilist in the St. Louis area ), the Catherine of Siena Excellence in Ministry Award ( awarded to a lay person who has contributed through ministerial work ) and the annual Aquinas Lecture ( given by leading theologians on current topics in theology ).

Memoires for Paul de Man, a book-length lecture series presented first at Yale and then at Irvine as Derrida's Wellek Lecture, followed in 1986, with a revision in 1989 that included " Like the Sound of the Sea Deep Within a Shell: Paul de Man's War ".

In recent years, guests have included the American politician Jesse Jackson, former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion, and the former head of MI6 Sir Richard Dearlove, who visited the college as part of the Arrol Adam Lecture Series in 2008.

Extensions to the east wing were added in 1929, and included the New Map Room and the 750 seat Lecture Theatre.

The College has also expanded its education facilities and included in the new development are three new Lecture Theatres.

Until the 1990s the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London staged an annual Herbert Read Lecture, which included well known speakers such as Salman Rushdie.

Marsden's career recognitions included fellowship in the Royal Society of London in 1946, president of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 1947, the Rutherford Memorial Lecture in 1948, and knighthood in 1958.
