Lee Slater Overman ( January 3, 1854December 12, 1930 ) was a Democratic U. S. senator from the state of North Carolina between 1903 and 1930.

Ferrell was born in Irvine, California, the son of Betty Kay ( Overman ), a teacher who taught at Old Mill School elementary school and Santa Ana College, and Roy Lee Ferrell, Jr., a musician with The Righteous Brothers.
He was later appointed to serve as a United States Senator for the state of North Carolina ( after the death of Lee S. Overman ) between 1930 and 1932, but lost his seat in the Democratic primary runoff to Robert R. Reynolds.
