Lehigh Valley Transit Company's combined passenger / freight station was located on the north ( east ) side of Pennsylvania Avenue between Shearer Street and Montgomery Avenue.

After Main Street trolley service ended in 1926, Lehigh Valley Transit high-speed trolleys continued to serve the Wales Junction station, located on Sumneytown Pike three-quarters of a mile west of town.

The city is split up into four sections: Historic Downtown, which lies directly to the north of the Lehigh River, to the west of the Delaware River, continuing west to Sixth Street ; The West Ward, which lies between Sixth and Fifteenth Streets ; The South Side, which lies south of the Lehigh River ; and College Hill, a neighborhood on the hills to the north which is the home of Lafayette College.

The three official student houses are the Carriage House and Mansion, former site of the school at 45 Lehigh Street, in Dover, and the Clinton House at 145 W. Clinton Street.

Some newer residents expand the area to Lehigh Avenue, while some older residents shrink the area to Norris Street.

The northern border is disputed by different peoples as either Norris Street, York Street, or Lehigh Avenue.

In August 1879, The Engineering and Mining Journal wrote, " the Gaylord Coal Co. is building a new breaker in place of the one burned down last summer, and which is to prepare the coal from the old slope workings, with its tunnel to the seven foot seam, as well as the coal from its new shaft which was sunk by the Lehigh & Wilkes-Barre Coal Co., when it had it, to the Bennett seam.

Schnecksville is also home to one of three campuses for Lehigh Carbon Community College ( also known LCCC, or " L-tri-C "), a public community college with 2, 145 full-time students.
