" Blind " Lemon Jefferson ( Lemon Henry Jefferson ; September 24, 1893 – December 19, 1929 ) was an American blues singer and guitarist from Texas.

Notable Pelicans included Shoeless Joe Jackson, Jimmy Dygert, Henry " Cotton " Knaupp, Bill Lindsay ( baseball ), Zeke Bonura, Gene Freese, and Hall of Famers Dazzy Vance, Joe Sewell, Bob Lemon, and Earl Weaver.

When Henry Flagler brought his railroad down to Lemon City ( a year or so before he extended it to Miami in 1896 ), he placed depots at numerous spots along the route, and small towns quickly developed around those stops.

The park grew out of the Lemon Hill estate of Henry Pratt, whose land was originally owned by Robert Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Sir Henry retired in 1933, Ernest Lemon initially taking over as CME for a short period before William Stanier was head-hunted into the job from the Great Western Railway.

Despite having little experience in locomotive engineering, in 1931 Lemon was appointed to the post of Chief Mechanical Engineer replacing the retiring Henry Fowler.

The album was produced and arranged by Ben Folds and most of the songs are co-written by Folds and Shatner, with Folds creating arrangements for Shatner's prose-poems, and feature guest appearances from Joe Jackson ( on a cover of Pulp's " Common People "), Folds and Aimee Mann ( backup vocals on " That's Me Trying "), Lemon Jelly ( on " Together "), Henry Rollins and Adrian Belew ( on " I Can't Get Behind That "), and Brad Paisley ( on " Real ", which he wrote specifically for Shatner ).

It was largely due to the popularity of artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson and contemporaries such as Blind Blake and Ma Rainey that Paramount became the leading recording company for the blues in the 1920s.

Cabrel cited the artist as one of a number of blues influences, including Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, Howlin ' Wolf, Blind Blake, Willie Dixon and Ma Rainey.

An urban legend claims this was the origin of the band's name, but according to band member Jorma Kaukonen, the name was invented by his friend Steve Talbot as a parody of blues names such as Blind Lemon Jefferson.

* January-Blind Lemon Jefferson makes his first recordings.

I was reminded, amusedly, by a poem of Kenneth Patchen's called The Murder of Two Men by a Young Kid Wearing Lemon Colored Gloves, which Patchen himself read on a record against jazz background.
