On April 11, 2001, Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders ( GLAD ) sued the Massachusetts Department of Health in Superior Court on behalf of seven same-sex couples, all residents of Massachusetts, who had been denied marriage licenses in March and April 2001.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Access Project was established in 1997 and first funded by Massachusetts Department of public health.

Later that month, on 23 May 1983, People With AIDS San Francisco voted to send Campbell and Turner to the National Lesbian and Gay Health Conference, at which the Second National AIDS Forum would be held.

The decision was made to attend the Second National AIDS Forum at the National Lesbian and Gay Health Conference, which was sponsored by the Lesbian and Gay Health Education Foundation.

The court received briefs and oral arguments, including an amicus brief from The Vermont Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights and the People For the American Way Foundation.

Many women of the Gay Liberation movement felt frustrated at the domination of the movement by men and formed separate organisations ; some who felt gender differences between men and women could not be resolved developed " lesbian separatism ", influenced by writings such as Jill Johnston's 1973 book Lesbian Nation.

Newspaper stories frankly divulged that the book's content includes " sexual relations between Lesbian women ", and photographs of Hall often accompanied details about lesbians in most major print outlets within a span of six months.

The meetings of feminist lesbians of Latin America and the Caribbean, sometimes shortened to " Lesbian meetings ", have been an important forum for the exchange of ideas for Latin American lesbians since the late 1980s.

Parades such as Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Manchester's Pride events attract significant investment and create tourist revenue, and cities are beginning to realize, firstly, that the acceptance of lesbian and gay culture is fast becoming a sign of urban " sophistication ", and secondly, that gay-oriented events, such as pride parades, the World Outgames and the Gay Games, are potentially lucrative events, attracting thousands of gay tourists and their dollars.

In 2001 an online Iranian LGBT rights organization was founded by a well-known Iranian gay activist, Arsham Parsi called " Rainbow ", followed by a clandestine organization called the Persian Gay and Lesbian Organization.

Since the end of the 1980s " Lesbian Sex Wars ", however, lesbians and bisexual women are more likely to have positive views about erotica and pornography.

The movie features a series of farcical lewd musical numbers in the style of classical Hollywood musical comedies including: " Orgasm ", " Lesbian Butch Dyke ", and " Dancing Dildos.

Mr. Lady Records has sponsored numerous showcases of feminist and lesbian music, including events at the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota ( working with the Queer Student Cultural Center ) and " Mr. Sister ", a showcase at the National Queer Arts Festival in 2003 at the Center for Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Art & Culture in San Francisco.

However, a psychiatric member of APA's Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues Committee has recently sought to distance the two, arguing that they were separate in the early 70s protests at APA conventions and that APA's decision to remove homosexuality was scientific and happened to coincide with the political pressure.

Tim McFeeley, a Harvard Law School graduate, founder of the Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance, and a co-chair of the New England HRC Committee, was elected the new executive director.

These include Women's, Lesbian Gay Bisexual & Trans, Disabled Students and Black Minority Ethnic Students campaigns, all of which are entitled to elect an officer to the National Committee.

Payton was very active in the American Psychological Association ( APA ) and served on many committees and task forces including the Committee on Scientific and Professional Ethics and Conduct, the Task Force on Sex Bias and Sex Role Stereotyping in Psychotherapeutic Practice, the Committee on Women in Psychology, the Committee on Lesbian and Gay Concerns, and the Policy and Planning Board.

From 1992 till her death in 1998 she was an active member of the Lesbian Archive and Information Centre management Committee.

The Guardian Style Guide, Newswatch Diversity Style Guide, The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, and the Committee on Lesbian and Gay Concern of the American Psychological Association's Avoiding Heterosexual Bias in Language agree that " gay " is the preferred term.

While it was first known as Lesbian and Gay History Month, the Coordinating Committee soon added " Bisexual " to the title.
