In Greek mythology, Leto ( Greek:, Latō in Dorian Greek, etymology and meaning disputed ) is a daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe and the sister of Asteria.

In the Olympian scheme, Zeus is father of her twins, Apollo and Artemis, the Letoides, which Leto conceived after her hidden beauty accidentally caught the eyes of Zeus.

For the classical Greeks, Leto is scarcely to be conceived apart from being pregnant and finding a place to be delivered of Apollo and Artemis, for Hera being jealous, made it so all lands shunned her.

In Dune ( 1965 ), Paul is fifteen years old ; the Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV orders the family to leave Caladan and govern the desert planet Arrakis ( known as Dune ), though Paul's father Duke Leto is in full knowledge that the Emperor is colluding with House Harkonnen to destroy the Atreides as a perceived threat to the throne.

De Vries kills Yueh but he also dies with Leto in the assassination attempt ; however Harkonnen survives.

) Indeed between 900 BC and AD 100, sacred Delos was a major cult centre, where Dionysus is also in evidence as well as the Titaness Leto, mother of the above mentioned twin deities.

She seems here a goddess of glittering in particular and of glory in general, but Pindar's allusion to her as " Theia of many names " is telling, since it suggests assimilation, referring not only to similar mother-of-the-sun goddesses such as Phoebe and Leto, but perhaps also to more universalizing mother-figures such as Rhea and Cybele.

In the iconography of Greek myth, the kneeling pose is also found in representations of Leto ( Roman Latona ) giving birth to Apollo and Artemis ( Diana ), and of Auge giving birth to Telephus, son of Herakles ( Hercules ).

Leto also reveals that he has repeatedly used his Duncan gholas in his breeding program to genetically improve the Atreides line.

This layer gives Leto tremendous strength and speed, acting as a living powered exoskeleton and also protection from mature sandworms, who mistake his sandtrout-covered body for a lethal mass of water.

The series also shows the origins of Shaddam's rivalry with Duke Leto Atreides I, and introduces Lady Anirul, the Bene Gesserit mother of Shaddam's daughters.

Leto also has the memories of a famous politician from the United States whose name was Jacob Broom.

Much to the frustration of the Bene Gesserit, they do not control Paul or his son, Leto Atreides II, also a Kwisatz Haderach, and even their breeding program is taken from them.

Scotia Aphrodite and goddess Leto ( was called and Phytia also ) worshiped there.

According to God Emperor of Dune, a version of Chani's memory-self also exists in Leto II.
