Leaders of this church, most notably President Joseph Smith, Jr., were imprisoned for some months in Clay County in the jail at Liberty ( see Liberty Jail ).

In May of 2012 the LDS Church opened a temple six miles southwest of the Liberty Jail site at 7001 Searcy Creek Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri.

Immediately after the conclusion of the Mormon War, Smith and other Mormon leaders were incarcerated at the Liberty Jail for the winter as Doniphan labored for a quicker trial date.

After a preliminary court hearing was held November 12 to 29 in Richmond, Smith and Wight were transferred to the Liberty Jail in Liberty.

Hyrum was still in custody in Liberty Jail, Missouri when his son Joseph Fielding was born.

During the Missouri period when Joseph Jr. and Hyrum were imprisoned in Liberty Jail, Lucy was a tower of strength to her husband and other church members.

On or about November 30, 1838, the Richmond court committed Joseph Smith, Jr., and his companions, Hyrum Smith, Lyman Wight, Alexander McRae, Caleb Baldwin, and Sidney Rigdon to Liberty Jail, to await trial.

They were taken from Richmond, Missouri to Liberty Jail in Liberty, Missouri in a large heavy wagon.

On March 20, 1839, while incarcerated in Liberty Jail, Joseph Smith, Jr. dictated a letter to Edward Partridge which was recorded by Caleb Baldwin and Alexander McRae.

Liberty Jail was a double walled, masonry and timber structure, twenty-two and a half feet long, twenty-two feet wide, and twelve feet tall.

Joseph Smith, Jr., and his companions were imprisoned in Liberty Jail for four and a half months during the coldest part of the Missouri winter.

The British Statute of Anne ( 1710 ) further alluded to individual rights of the artist, beginning: " Whereas Printers, Booksellers, and other Persons, have of late frequently taken the Liberty of Printing ...
