Swift gives the location of Lilliput and Blefuscu as Latitude 30 ° 2 ′ S, to the northwest of Van Diemen's Land.

Blefuscu is located northeast of Lilliput, across an 800-yard channel.

The only cities mentioned by Swift are Mildendo, the capital of Lilliput, and Blefuscu, capital of Blefuscu.

Lilliput and Blefuscu were intended as, and understood to be, satirical portraits of the kingdom of Great Britain and the kingdom of France, respectively, as they were in the early 18th century.

Swift's Lilliputian claims that the machinations of " Big-Endian exiles " at the court of the Emperor of Blefuscu have brought about a continuous war between Lilliput and Blefuscu for " six and thirty moons " ( Lilliputians calculate time in ' moons ', not years ; their time-scale is apparently also one-twelfth the size of normal humans.

He offers his services to the Emperor of Lilliput in his war against Blefuscu, and succeeds in capturing the ( one-twelfth sized ) Blefuscudian fleet.

Despite a triumphant welcome, he soon finds himself at odds with the Emperor of Lilliput, as he declines to conquer the rest of Blefuscu for him and to force the Blefuscudians to adopt Little-Endianism.

Gulliver is, after further adventures, condemned as a traitor by the Council of Lilliput, and condemned to be blinded ; he escapes his punishment by fleeing to Blefuscu.

The concept of a war based on toast is similar to the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu in Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, which was nominally based on the correct end to crack an egg once soft boiled.

Only the internal politics of Lilliput are described in detail ; these are parodies of British politics, in which the great central issues of the day are belittled and reduced to unimportance.

Although the main industries in the area are based around tourism and agriculture there are some other industries reperesented within Penrith for example Greggs in 2011 opened a new bakery at Gilwilly replacing 2 bakeries in the Friargate area that used to belong to the Penrith based Birketts firm ; Dominos Pizza have a dough manufacturing site at Gilwilly and the model firm Lilliput Lane ( now part of Enesco ) was founded in Penrith and until March 2009 had its main factory at Skirsgill Park.

The nonsense achieves part of its humor by fulfilling the structural and phonetic requirements of an extant form, but substituting silly syllables for meaningful ones, thereby allowing the listener or reader to enjoy the suggestion that the usual words are empty placeholders ( e. g. when Jonathan Swift's King of Lilliput has a royal title ending in " Ully Mully Goo ," the nonsense sounds and weighs the same as the titles of real kings and, implicitly, is just as meaningful ).

The two were re-published together in 1990 by The Lilliput Press in Dublin.

It has been referred to as " Lilliput sight " and " Lilliputian hallucination ," a term coined by British physician Raoul Leroy in 1909, based on the small people that inhabited the island of Lilliput in the novel.

Lilliput and Lilliput House were frequently used by Jonathan Swift as a holiday home and place to write, local tradition states that Jonathan Swift was in a boat on the lake when he looked back at Lilliput and noticed how small the people looked at that distance, hence the inspiration for his most famous book Gulliver's Travels.

Lilliput at the time was called " Nure " however after the publication of Gulliver's Travels locals began to refer to the lakeshore as Lilliput, the name stuck and today the area is known as Lilliput.
