On October 10, 1966, Mao's ally, General Lin Biao, publicly criticized Liu and Deng as " capitalist roaders " and threats.

With the demise of Liu, Mao promoted Lin Biao as his deputy, and the " Gang of Four " to fill the role of his trusted henchmen.

Zhu De and Peng Dehuai were considered senior to Lin, and Lin ranked ahead of He Long and Liu Bocheng.

In 1937 Lin married one of the students there, a girl named Liu Ximin, who had earned the nickname " University Flower ".

In the People's Republic of China, Lin was denounced for his anti-communism but has since been rehabilitated after the Cultural Revolution.
