* Carl von Linde installs his first commercial refrigeration system, built by Maschinenfabrik Augsburg for the Spaten Brewery and using dimethyl ether as the refrigerant.

He has won many awards and medals, including the Medal of the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy, with Andrei Linde and Paul Steinhardt and the Eddington Medal in 1996, and the 2009 Isaac Newton Medal, awarded by the British Institute of Physics.

The program consisted of 24 work study students, whose leader in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Carl Linde, set a format for the program that would last into the late 1990s.

The German engineer and founder of The Linde Group, Carl von Linde, won the patent for the process.

In 1868 Linde learned of a new university opening in Munich ( the Technische Hochschule ) and immediately applied for a job as a lecturer ; he was accepted -- at the age of 26 -- for the position.

In 1895, Linde first achieved success, and filed for patent protection of his process ( not approved in the US until 1903 ).

In 1906 Linde negotiated a stake in Brin's Oxygen Company ( later The BOC Group ) in exchange for rights to Linde's patents in the UK and other countries, and held a board position until 1914.

From around 1910 Linde started transferring responsibility for the company's operation to his sons Friedrich and Richard and to his son-in-law Rudolf Wucherer.
