Polenta is used to be eaten mainly in the Slovenian Littoral, while in central and eastern Slovenia, it was replaced by the buckwheat žganci, then almost unknown in the western part of the country.

Other animals in the park include Island Scrub Jay, harbor seal, California sea lion, island fox, spotted skunk, island night lizard, barn owl, American kestrel, horned lark and meadowlark and California brown pelican.

Up to about 11, 000 years ago, the four northern Channel Islands were one large island, so the ancestral Island Scrub Jay must have been present on all four islands initially, but became extinct on Santa Rosa, San Miguel and Anacapa after they were separated by rising sea levels.

Myrtle Scrub Road is a 15 kilometre circuit in the west of the park that connects with the Oxley Highway.

There is a barbecue area, picnic area and public toilets at Stockyard Creek on the Oxley Highway and a cleared area for picnics next to Cells River on Myrtle Scrub Road.

The rainforests on Dome Mountain and the Murray Scrub are part of the World Heritage listed Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia.

The Murray Scrub and the Dome Mountain Forest contain significant areas of subtropical and temperate rainforest and are listed as part of the World Heritage Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia.

The most intact area is the Hardy's Scrub section of the reserve.

The natural vegetation consists primarily of Coastal Sage Scrub, though much of this natural vegetation is visibly absent or exists in remnant form within the lowlands of the area where residential and agricultural uses are most prevalent.

Among other species, the park provides crucial habitat for the Florida Scrub Jay, a threatened federal species of which less than 4, 000 breeding pairs are thought to survive.
