The Elements of Logic gave a great impetus to the study of logic throughout Britain and the United States of America.

However, he never gave a general name to his treatises on Logic nor did he coin the word Logic.

In his Logic: The Theory of Inquiry ( 1938 ), Dewey gave the following definition of inquiry:
