In the northeast are several flat-topped mountains, of which Raccoon and Lookout are the most prominent, having a maximum elevation near the Georgia line of little more than and gradually decreasing in height toward the southwest, where Sand Mountain is a continuation of Raccoon.

Ruby Falls Cave is a show cave located on the side of Lookout Mountain in downtown Chattanooga.

The confluence of the river and one of its tributaries, Lookout Hollow, is immediately northwest of the city.

It is located on Long Beach Barrier Island, one of the outer barrier islands which it shares with Long Beach, East Atlantic Beach, Atlantic Beach Estates, Lido Beach and Point Lookout.
