Henry Conyngham, 1st Marquess Conyngham KP, GCH, PC, FSA ( 26 December 1766 – 28 December 1832 ), known as The Lord Conyngham between 1787 and 1789, as The Viscount Conyngham between 1789 and 1797 and as The Earl Conyngham between 1797 and 1815, was an Anglo-Irish courtier and politician of the Regency period.

Lord Conyngham died at Hamilton Place, London, in December 1832, aged 66, and was succeeded by his second but eldest surviving son, Francis.

Unfortunately for Conyngham, France had a treaty with England that forbade the selling of commandeered good in French ports, and when Lord Stormont, an English official, heard of Conyngham ’ s actions he demanded that France return the Joseph and arrest him.

Not ready to commit to a war with England, French officials bowed to Lord Stormont ’ s demands, turning over the Joseph and calling for Conyngham ’ s arrest.

He was the son of the cricketer Bernard Bosanquet, ( who was inventor of the googly ) and great great grandson of Sir Nicolas Conyngham Tindal, Lord Chief Justice from 1829 – 1843.
