Lord Longford sat in the British House of Lords as one of the 28 original Irish Representative Peers.

Lord Longford was killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915.

In 1999, at the age of 94 and after the House of Lords Act 1999 removed the automatic right of hereditary peers to sit in the House of Lords, Lord Longford was created a life peer as Baron Pakenham of Cowley, of Cowley in the County of Oxfordshire.

Lord Longford died in April 1766, aged 52.

Mountbatten served his final posting at the Admiralty as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff from April 1955 to July 1959, the position which his father had held some forty years prior.

Lord Aberdeen served as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between January and June 1828 and subsequently as Foreign Secretary until 1830 under the Duke of Wellington. He resigned with Wellington over the Reform Bill of 1832.

Henry Austin Bruce, 1st Baron Aberdare GCB, PC, FRS ( 16 April 1815 – 25 February 1895 ) was a British Liberal Party politician, who served in government most notably as Home Secretary ( 1868 – 1873 ) and as Lord President of the Council.

Jellicoe later served as First Sea Lord ( professional head of the Royal Navy ), but he was removed at the end of 1917 because of differences over policy regarding the war against the U-Boats and his perceived pessimism about Britain's ability to carry on the war.

Lord Rayleigh was elected Fellow of the Royal Society on 12 June 1873, and served as president of the Royal Society from 1905 to 1908.

James the Just, known as " the brother of the Lord ", served as head of the Jerusalem church, which is still honored as the " Mother Church " in Orthodox tradition.

The ninety-two room building formerly served as the ' out-of-season ' residence of the Irish Lord Lieutenant and the residence of two of the three Irish Governors-General: Tim Healy and James McNeill.

Gareth Wyn Williams, Baron Williams of Mostyn, PC, QC, ( 5 February 1941-20 September 2003 ) was a Welsh barrister and Labour politician who was Leader of the House of Lords, Lord President of the Council and a member of the Cabinet at the time of his sudden death in 2003.

Lord Holme later blamed Owen for the Alliance's failure to make a breakthrough at the 1987 general election, believing that a merged party would have performed much better and possibly gained more votes and seats than Labour.
