Lucie-Smith and Hobsbaum
As befits their name, the Group were much more formally a group of poets, meeting for weekly discussions under the chairmanship of Philip Hobsbaum and Edward Lucie-Smith.
The anthology is a careful attempt to take account of the whole span of post-war British poetry including poets from The Group, a London-centred workshop for whom Lucie-Smith himself had once been chairman ( following the departure of founder Philip Hobsbaum ).
This Group relocated to London when Hobsbaum moved there in 1955, becoming The Group, and continuing until 1965, chaired by Edward Lucie-Smith after Hobsbaum's departure for Sheffield.
