A 3. 2 million year-old, 40 % complete fossil skeleton of an Australopithecus afarensis specimen discovered in 1974 was named " Lucy " because the Beatles ' song was being played loudly and repeatedly on a tape recorder in the camp.

The most famous fossil is the partial skeleton named Lucy ( 3. 2 million years old ) found by Donald Johanson and colleagues, who, in celebration of their find, repeatedly played the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Despite Laetoli being the type locality for A. afarensis, the most extensive remains assigned to the species are found in Hadar, Afar Region of Ethiopia, including the above-mentioned " Lucy " partial skeleton and the " First Family " found at the AL 333 locality.

When Ball and husband Desi Arnaz decided to develop this program for television in a series called I Love Lucy, Benaderet was first choice to fill the role of Ethel Mertz, but was ultimately unavailable to accept it since she had already been cast for the fledgeling Burns and Allen television show.
