This technical leadership and the rivalry with IBM was emphasized when the Systempro server was launched in late 1989-this was a true server product with standard support for a second CPU and RAID, but also the first product to feature the EISA bus, designed in reaction to IBM's MCA ( MicroChannel Architecture ).

It was announced in September 1988 by a consortium of PC clone vendors ( the " Gang of Nine ") as a counter to IBM's use of its proprietary Micro Channel architecture ( MCA ) in its PS / 2 series.

EISA was much favoured by manufacturers due to the proprietary nature of MCA, and even IBM produced some machines supporting it.

It was somewhat expensive to implement ( though not as much as MCA ), so it never became particularly popular in desktop PCs.

The result of this was that the PAS won a number of Malay seats from UMNO, but many Chinese voters disapproved of this unnatural alliance with the Islamist PAS, causing the DAP to lose many of its seats to the MCA, including that of its veteran leader, Lim Kit Siang.

By 1970, Dot had become an all-country label and in 1974, Paramount sold all of its record holdings to ABC Records, which in turn was sold to MCA ( now Universal Music Group ) in 1979.

Until early 1980, the format had no " official " name ; however, the LaserVision Association, made up of MCA, Universal-Pioneer, IBM, and Philips / Magnavox, was formed to standardize the technical specifications of the format ( which had been causing problems for the consumer market ) and finally named the system officially as " LaserVision ".
