When MGM closed its cartoon studio in 1957, Hanna-Barbera began producing cartoons directly for television, finding an audience in the evening " family hour " time.

Animation began to disappear from movie theaters ; while Disney continued to produce animated features after losing its founder, MGM and Warner Bros closed their studios, outsourced their animation, and got out of it entirely by the end of the decade.

Richard James " Dick " Lundy ( August 14, 1907 – April 7, 1990 ) was an American animator and film director who worked at several different animation studios including Walt Disney Productions, MGM, and Hanna-Barbera.

In 2002, Dimension Films, a division of Miramax, and MGM tried to get a film going with John Travolta playing the lead.

The home video division of MGM started in 1979 as MGM Home Video, releasing all the movies and TV shows by MGM.
