Michael MacAuliffe, also known as Max Arthur Macauliffe ( 10 September 1841 − 15 March 1913 ), was a senior British administrator, prolific scholar and author.

Macauliffe is renowned for his translation of Sikh scripture and history into English.

His personal assistant remarked in his memoirs that on his death bed, Macauliffe could be heard reciting the Sikh morning prayer, Japji, ten minutes before he died.

Macauliffe is held in high esteem amongst Sikh communion, for his attempted translation into English of the Sikh Scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib.

At a lecture at the annual session of the Lahore Singh Sabha Macauliffe proclaimed that the Guru Granth was matchless as a book of holy teachings.

Max Arthur Macauliffe fixes 1415 as the year of Dhanna's birth, but his name does not appears in the writings of Kabir or Ravidas.

The Guru Granth Sahib also says that Bhagat Namdev and Bhagat Kabir, who were both believed to be Hindus, both attained salvation though they were born before Sikhism took root and were clearly not Sikhs. This highlights and reinforces the Guru's saying that " peoples of other faiths " can join with God as true and also at the same time signify that Sikhism is not the exclusive path for liberation.

Also, Hindus believe that the spirit of kali yuga has yet to be destroyed, but Ayyavazhi says that the spirit of Kali Yuga started its decline immediately after the Avatar of Vaikundar arrived.

On the topic of idolatry, Abu ’ l Fazl says that the symbols and images that the Hindus carry are not idols, but merely are there to keep their minds from wandering.

Our most elemental and unavoidable impressions, he says, are those of being involved in a large arena of powers which have a longer past than our own, which are interrelated in a vast movement through the present toward the future.

His birth, education, and fortune, he says, have all been ridiculed simply because he has spoken with the freedom of an Englishman, and he assures the reader that `` whoever talks with me, is speaking to a Gentleman born ''.
