Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry joined the ADB on 31 December 2005, saying that foreign companies repatriated much of the profit made in Fiji, rather than investing it locally, while taking advantage of the infrastructure funded by Fijian taxpayers without paying any taxes themselves.

Mahendra Chaudhry's ancestral ties are with the village of Bahu Jamalpur in Rohtak District, in the Indian state of Haryana. His grandfather, Ram Nath Chaudhry, arrived in Fiji in 1902, as an indentured labourer, to work on Fiji's sugarcane plantations.

In the year 1711, Druk Rabgye ( r. 1701-1719 ) the ruler of Bhutan joined forces with the Hindu rebel Mahendra Narayan and Yajna Narayan and attacked Ibrahim Khan the Mughal Faujdar of Ghoraghat and Dhaka, who consolidated territories for the Mughal Empire in Koch Bihar.

Mahendra Chaudhry, the deposed Prime Minister, has publicly supported Mara's version of events, and has further alleged that Mara was blackmailed with a threat to kill his daughter, Tourism Minister Adi Koila Nailatikau, who was one of the hostages.

Mahendra Chaudhry, the leader of the Indo-Fijian community who in 1999 became Fiji's first Indo-Fijian Prime Minister, said that he did not agree with, but understood, Mara's reasons for acting as he did, and accepted his apology for having done so.

Further controversy continued since, with FLP leader Mahendra Chaudhry ( who declined a cabinet post ) insisting that FLP members of the cabinet owed their first loyalty to party.

In the drawing up of the present constitution, many Indo-Fijians, including the Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, pushed for a common roll and for the abolition of the communal electoral rolls, believing that it inhibited the formation of multi-racial political parties with a vision for the whole country ; instead, voting typically followed ethnic rather than ideological lines.

On 15 May 2005, the publication of " Speight of Violence ," coauthored by Baba, his wife Unaisi Nabobo-Baba ( a fellow USP academic ( at the time ) now ( 2011 ) of the University of Guam ) and journalist Michael Field, generated controversy with the claim that Mahendra Chaudhry had promised him the Prime Ministership before and during the 1999 election campaign, and that Chaudhry had reneged on that promise.

Believing that President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara was not dealing effectively with the situation, Bainimarama apparently forced Mara to resign on 29 May 2000, in what some politicians have since called " a coup within a coup ," and formed an Interim Military Government which negotiated an accord under which the rebels would release all hostages, including the deposed Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, and would surrender without penalty.

Forming a coalition with her former party, the Fiji Labour Party Adi Kuini became one of two Deputy Prime Ministers in the coalition government led by Mahendra Chaudhry.

In the Fourth and final Test, with India needing one wicket to secure a victory, the Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, invited Ganguly to lead the side in the field for the final time.

The NFP leader, Jai Ram Reddy, enjoyed a personal rapport with Rabuka ; although they did not enter into a formal coalition, their negotiations led to a substantial overhaul of the Fijian Constitution which paved the way for the historic election of 1999, which brought Fiji's first Indo-Fijian Prime Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, to power.

Mahendra was also captive in Narayanhiti Palace, virtually a gilded cage.

The Mahendra Highway ( also called East-West Highway ) that runs along the entire Terai belt in southern Nepal was constructed during his reign.

As of May 2010 Mahendra is also survived by his widow, Queen Mother Ratna.

Ranchi is also famous for being the hometown of World Cup winning Captain of Indian Cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

This proposal was immediately opposed by Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, who said it would lead to " dual government ," in Fiji, and also drew criticism from Ratu Epeli Ganilau.

He banned naxalite organisations in Chattisgarh in 2005 under the " Salwa Judum " initiative, a move supported by the opposition party as well, led by Mahendra Karma which has also been criticised. In August 2012, the CAG ( comptroller and auditor general ) of India reported a huge coal allocation scam in chattisgarh.

Concurrently, Kalyani's husband, Mahendra, is also given shelter by the priests, and they are reunited.

Singh's memoir also made controversial claims that Sitiveni Rabuka, the architect of the 1987 coups, had personally told him that he was the main instigator behind the scenes of the 2000 coup also, and that his main target was not the government of Mahendra Chaudhry, but the aging Ratu Mara, who was now President.

Fiji Labour Party ( FLP ) leader Mahendra Chaudhry also endorsed the call for Fijian to be made a national language and a compulsory school subject, provided that the same status be given to Hindi-a position echoed by Krishna Vilas of the National Reconciliation Committee.

During this mission he also shadowed Raja Mahendra Pratap, an Indian nationalist who had established the Provisional Government of India in Kabul in 1915.
