Makaryev Fair () was a fair in Russia held annually every July near Makaryev Monastery on the left bank of the Volga River from the mid-16th century to 1816.

In 1817, the Makaryev Fair, one of the liveliest in the world, was transferred to Nizhny Novgorod, which thereupon started to attract millions of visitors annually.

In 1816, an accidental fire destroyed the Makaryev Fair.

Major historic towns include Kostroma, Sharya, Nerekhta, Galich, Soligalich, and Makaryev.

In the meantime Count Ignatyev served as Governor of Nizhny Novgorod, where he was credited with the expansion of the Makaryev Fair.

The towns of Kologriv, Manturovo and Makaryev are located on the Unzha River.

There have been Christian monasteries such as " The Cappadocian Caves " that used to shelter upwards of 5, 000 monks, or St Pantelaimon's Monastery on the Mount Athos in Greece, which has held up to 3, 000 monks.

The former Monastery, built in the 18th Century, will be used as a permanent campus for the University, which currently has three other campuses in the State of Oklahoma located in: the main campus in Norman, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and the OU-Schusterman Center in Tulsa.

The church is now part of a complex of buildings, superimposed in time, which were used formerly by the Monastery dei Frati Minori ( 1437-1806 ) and then by Schio ’ s civil hospital ( the Baratto Institute 1807-1959 ) and now a home for the elderly.
