In 1966, Mao and his allies launched the Cultural Revolution, which would last until Mao's death a decade later.

Here, Mao was taught the value systems of Confucianism, one of the dominant moral ideologies in China, but he would later admit that he did not enjoy reading the classical Chinese texts which preached Confucian morals, instead favouring popular novels such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin.

Mao would later claim that he first developed a " political consciousness " from that booklet.

Inspired by Sun's example, Mao penned his first political essay, which he stuck to the school wall ; later admitting that it was " somewhat muddled ", it involved a plan for overthrowing the monarchy and replacing it with a republic governed by the presidency of Sun, but with concessions made to the moderates by having Kang Youwei as premier and Liang Qichao as minister of foreign affairs.

Several months later, it amalgamated with the prestigious First Normal School of Changsha, widely seen as the best school in Hunan province ; Mao biographer Stuart Schram would later note that the environment of the school provided " an ideal training ground for his apprenticeship as a political worker.

Mao later noted that Chen's adoption of Marxism " deeply impressed me at what was probably a critical period in my life.

Biographer Stuart Schram would later comment that during the period between 1925 and 1927, Mao was closer to the Kuomintang than he was to the Communist Party, something he attributed to Mao's belief that the good of China was more important than the cause of socialism.

By contrast, neighboring Chinese leader Mao Zedong was mostly ignored and Kim Il-sung rejected most of his policies such as the Hundred Flowers Campaign and ( later ) the Cultural Revolution.

* 1934 – Chinese Communists begin the Long March ; it ended a year and four days later, by which time Mao Zedong had regained his title as party chairman.

Peng was replaced by Lin Biao, another revolutionary army general who became a more staunch Mao supporter later in his career.

This was one of many quotations in the Little Red Book that the Red Guards would later follow as a guide, provided by Mao.

Liu Shaoqi, once the most powerful man in China after Mao, was sent to a detention camp, where he later died in 1969.

A year later, the Red Guard factions were dismantled entirely ; Mao feared that the chaos they caused — and could still cause — might harm the very foundation of the Communist Party of China.

It initially targeted Zhang Chunqiao and Yao Wenyuan, but would later involve Mao himself.

Mao believed that intellectuals and party cadres had to become first students of the masses to become teachers of the masses later.

During this period Mao clearly established himself as a Marxist theoretician and produced the bulk of the works which would later be canonized into the " thought of Mao Zedong ".

Like Mao later recognized, Mif understood that Zhou's services as Party leader were indispensable, and that Zhou would willingly cooperate with whoever was holding power.

After achieving power Mao later purged or demoted those who had opposed him in 1932, but remembered Zhou's defense of his policies.

Zhou's support was not enough, and Mao was demoted to being a figurehead in the Soviet government until he regained his position later, during the Long March.

Mao would later write of this period:

Though candid in expressing his admiration for Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, and, later, Fidel Castro Ruz, Jagan in power asserted that the PPP's Marxist-Leninist principles must be adapted to Guyana's own particular circumstances.

Nationwide political campaigns led by Mao, such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, are often considered catastrophic failures ; and his rule is believed to have caused the deaths of 40 to 70 million people.

Some in the U. S. New Left argued that since the Soviet Union could no longer be considered the world center for proletarian revolution, new revolutionary Communist thinkers had to be substituted in its place, such as Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro.

However, Deng stated that the revolutionary side of Maoism should be considered separate from the governance side, leading to his famous epithet that Mao was " 70 % good, 30 % bad ".

Chen Boda and Mao Yuanxin, the latter being Mao's nephew, were also considered some of the Gang's closer associates.

The removal of this group from power is sometimes considered to have marked the end of the Cultural Revolution, which had been launched by Mao in 1966 as part of his power struggle with leaders such as Liu Shaoqi, Deng Xiaoping and Peng Zhen.

The harvest period of Mao Dun's writing is considered to have been from 1927 to 1937.

Several jointly owned Sino-Soviet corporations were established, but Mao considered these to impinge on Chinese sovereignty and in 1954 they were quietly dissolved.

The People's Republic of China under Mao Zedong can also be considered a cult of personality.

After private discussion with other senior leaders, Peng considered the prestige of Mao and the unity of the Party and agreed to make a self-criticism, which was publicly reviewed at the conference, in which he admitted that he had made " severe mistakes " associated with his " rightist viewpoint ", that he had been a follower of Li Lisan and Wang Ming, and in which he openly implicated his supporters in his " mistakes ".

Lin reversed Peng's reforms, abolishing all signs and privileges of rank, purging officers considered sympathetic to the USSR, directing soldiers to work part-time as industrial and agricultural labourers, and indoctrinating the armed forces in Mao Zedong Thought.

He was one of the Big Five in Chinese Civil War along with Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De and considered to be one of the Eight Elders of Communist Party of China.

Thus, the first generation, from 1949 to 1976, consisted of Mao Zedong as core, along with Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Chen Yun, Peng Dehuai, later Lin Biao and Gang of Four ( neither Lin or the Gang are today considered by official discourse to be part of this generation because of political antagonism resulting from the Cultural Revolution ).

Lin attempted to reform China's armed forces based on political criteria: he abolished all signs and privileges of rank, purged members considered sympathetic to the USSR, directed soldiers to work part-time as industrial and agricultural workers, and indoctrinated the armed forces in Mao Zedong Thought.

Realizing that Mao was now fully aware of his abortive coup, Lin's party first considered fleeing south to their base of power in Guangzhou, where they would establish an alternate ' Party headquarters ' and attack armed forces loyal to Mao in cooperation with the Soviet Union.

The incident marked the end of the myth that Mao was always considered absolutely correct within the Party.

After this, Khrushchev made many desperate attempts to reconstitute the Sino-Soviet alliance, but Mao considered it useless and denied any proposal.

Later, when Mao died and Deng Xiaoping began to reform the Chinese system, the Communist Party of New Zealand began to follow the lead of Enver Hoxha's Albania, which they considered to be the last truly Communist country in the world.

After the fall of the Gang of Four in 1976 they considered the Chinese leaders " reaction " and " attacking the revolutionary domestic achievements of the Mao era ".

Today in China the song is considered a somewhat unseemly reminder of the cult of personality associated with Mao and has largely been replaced by the " March of the Volunteers ", whose lyrics mention neither the Communist Party nor Mao.

Mao considered terrorism a basic part of his first part of the three phases of revolutionary warfare.

Mao considered terrorism to be part of forming a guerilla movement.

Following the line of Mao, it considered the Soviet Union and its bloc as restored capitalist countries.
