The Prince and Princess of Wales ( Charles and Diana ) attended that meeting, arriving by boat via the Maribyrnong River.

Liberal attacks concentrated on the slow process of infrastructure development under Bracks ( notably on water supply issues relating to the severe drought affecting Victoria in the election leadup ), and new Liberal leader Ted Baillieu promised to start construction on a range of new infrastructure initiatives, including a new dam on the Maribyrnong River and a desalination plant.

They followed the western branch and named it the Saltwater River ( the present Maribyrnong ) to what is now Braybrook, and then the eastern fresh-water branch ( the Yarra ) to Dights Falls.

In 1871 the Victorian Government appointed the VRC as trustees of a site of 352 acres ( 1. 4 km² ) of Crown Land, next to the Maribyrnong River, which became known as Flemington Racecourse.

The racecourse is situated on low alluvial flats, next to the Maribyrnong River.

They continued southwards towards the junction of the Maribyrnong River and Jacksons Creek.

On the next day, Grimes rowed up the river in a boat and explored what is now the Maribyrnong River for several miles.

Originally Tullamarine extended westwards to the Organ Pipes National Park, and the nearby area bounded by the Maribyrnong River, Jacksons Creek and Deep Creek was called Tullamarine Island because of the difficulties faced by inhabitants in getting across the watercourses during wet weather.

It was named after Brimbank Park in Keilor, which itself was named for the practice of local farmers driving livestock " around the brim of the bank " of the Maribyrnong River.

Its Local Government Area is the City of Maribyrnong, part of the River Ward.

Maribyrnong takes its name from the Maribyrnong River which bounds the suburb to the north and east.

The Maribyrnong River Trail shared path starts at Brimbank Park, following mostly beside the river to near its conjunction with the Yarra River in Footscray.

Heading west along the Western Ring Road Trail will lead you to Brimbank Park and the Maribyrnong River Trail.

The path, often on both sides of the river, follows the meandering of the Maribyrnong River through a valley cut in the basaltic plateau in Keilor East at Brimbank Park, then across a floodplain to its entry into the Yarra River at Docklands.

October 2011: The Maribyrnong River Trail from Brimbank Park into the CBD has been closed between Brimbank Park and roughly the Canning Street Park since about May 2011 due to flood damage.

Starting at the north end of Brimbank Park, the gravel trail winds its way through the trees along the valley on the east side of the Maribyrnong River and the western end of the park.

The Western Ring Road Trail connects with the Maribyrnong River Trail at the south end of Brimbank Park.

At the Western Ring Road Trail, heading west will lead you to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, Brimbank Park and the Maribyrnong River Trail.

In 1976 Brimbank Park was opened as part of the Maribyrnong Valley Park, combined with the adjacent Horseshoe Bend Children's farm and Greenvale Reservoir Park.

Keilor East is bounded in the west by the Maribyrnong River in the City of Brimbank, in the north by the Calder Freeway, in the east by Hoffmans Road, and in the south by Buckley Street, Steele Creek and Rose Hill Road.

The river flows past Pipemakers Park at Maribyrnong and the Living Museum of the West which presents information on the history of the river and the early industrial history of the site.

The team was known as the Westside Vikings until 1997, and plays its home games at the Henry Turner Memorial Reserve on Farnsworth Avenue right next door to the iconic Flemington Racecourse, within the Footscray Park area, Maribyrnong River and Victoria University.

The route runs along Elizabeth Street in the city, Victoria Street in West Melbourne, Errol Street, Queensberry Street and Abbotsford Street in North Melbourne, Flemington Road in Parkville, Racecourse Road through North Melbourne, Kensington, Newmarket and Flemington, Epsom Road through Flemington and Ascot Vale, Union Road and Maribyrnong Road in Ascot Vale, and Raleigh Road and Cordite Avenue in Maribyrnong where it terminates at the corner of Cordite Avenue and Central Park Avenue.

At Maribyrnong the path passes through Pipemakers Park with its Living Museum of the West which contains historical presentations on the river valley and the people who have lived there since its initial occupation up to 40, 000 years ago by the Wurundjeri people.
