* 1801 – Marie Laveau, American voodoo practitioner ( d. 1881 )

He co-wrote with Baxter Taylor " Marie Laveau ", for which the songwriters received a 1975 BMI Award.

They were arrested in New Orleans on charges of grave robbing while attempting to locate the grave of voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau, but bailed themselves out of jail and skipped their court date in order to drive to their next performance in Florida.

Marie Laveau ( September 10, 1794 – June 16, 1881 ) was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo renowned in New Orleans.

Her daughter Marie Laveau II ( 1827 — c. 1895 ) also practiced Voudoun, and historical accounts often confuse the two.
