This changed in March of that year, when a constitution was approved by a vote of the Andorran people and signed into law by the two co-princes at the time: President François Mitterrand and Bishop Joan Martí Alanis.

Back in New York Martí joined General Calixto García's Cuban revolutionary committee, made up of exiled & disheveled Cubans who wanted independence for Cuba.

Born in Havana, Martí began his political activism at an early age.

José Julián Martí Pérez was born on January 28, 1853, in Havana, at 41 Paula St., to a Spanish Valencian father, Mariano Martí Navarro, and Leonor Pérez Cabrera, a native of the Canary Islands.

In Spain, Martí, who was 18 at the time, was allowed to continue his studies with the hopes that studying in Spain would renew his loyalty to Spain.

Arriving at the capital he contacted fellow Cuban Carlos Sauvalle, who had been deported to Spain a year before Martí and whose house served as a center of reunions for Cubans in exile.

Martí taught composition classes free at the academia de niñas de centroamérica girls ' academy, among whose students he enthralled young María García Granados, daughter of Guatemalan president Miguel García Granados.

Radio Martí was established in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan, at the urging of Jorge Mas Canosa, with the mission of fighting communism.

On occasion, the medium wave transmitter at 1180 kHz can be heard as far north as Washington, D. C. TV Martí broadcasts daily programs in Spanish via a transmitter affixed to an aerostat balloon located 10, 000 feet ( 3, 048 m ) above Cudjoe Key, Florida.

The following year, he began working at the Biblioteca Nacional José Martí.

Martí i Pol was of humble origin and had to quit studying at 14 years, to start working at a factory.

RHC no longer transmits on medium waves ( see schedule at RHC's Web site ), even though Radio Martí still transmits from the United States to Cuba on 1180 kHz.

* April 18 – Two Soviet Navy Tupolev Tu-20 ( NATO reporting name " BEAR D ") reconnaissance / missile-targeting aircraft land at José Martí International Airport outside Havana, Cuba, the first time that any variant of the BEAR has landed outside the Soviet Bloc.

* May 27 – An Aeroflot Ilyushin Il-62M airliner strikes power lines in bad weather and crashes 1 km ( 0. 62 mile ) from José Martí International Airport at Havana, Cuba, while on final approach, killing 68 of the 70 people on board and one person on the ground.

Martorell was a chivalrous man and suffered an early death due to court intrigue, leading to a colleague, Martí Joan de Galba, finishing the novel.

In November 1920, he was detained together with Salvador Seguí ( known as El Noi del Sucre ), Martí Barrera, Josep Viadiu, and other trade unionists and was deported to the Castell de la Mola in Mahón, on Menorca.

The counts of Cerdanya were great patrons of abbeys, most famously Saint-Michel de Cuxa ( Catalan: Sant Miquel de Cuixà ), dating back to the 10th century and located in Conflent, and Saint-Martin-du-Canigou ( Catalan: Sant Martí del Canigó ), dedicated by Count Guifred of Cerdanya in 1009.

José Martí International Airport, sometimes known by its former name Rancho-Boyeros Airport, is located southwest of Havana, Cuba, and is a hub for Cubana de Aviación, Aerogaviota and Aero Caribbean, and former Latin American hub for Aeroflot Soviet Airlines.

That year, two days prior to the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion organized by the CIA with the participation of Cuban exiles, Douglas A-26 Invader aircraft from Brigade 2506 bombarded José Martí Airport and Antonio Maceo Airport in Santiago de Cuba.

Monturiol died in 1885, in Sant Martí de Provençals, now a suburb of Barcelona.

Martí was the elder brother to seven sisters: Leonor, Mariana, Maria de Carmen, Maria de Pilar, Rita Amelia, Antonia and Dolores.

In 1866, Martí entered the Instituto de Segunda Ensañanza where Mendive financed his studies.

At this point, Martí began collaboration with the newspaper El Socialista as leader of the Gran Círculo Obrero ( Great Labour Circle ) organization of liberals and reformists who supported Lerdo de Tejada.

On June 4, La Sociedad Esperanza de Empleados ( Employees ' Hope Society ) designated Martí as delegate to the Congreso Obrero.

On May 10, socialite María García Granados died of lung disease ; her unrequited love for Martí branded her, poignantly, as ' la niña de Guatemala, la que se murió de amor ' ( the Guatemalan girl who died of love ).
