Mary Therese Winifred Robinson ( née Bourke ) (; born 21 May 1944 ) served as the seventh, and first female, President of Ireland from 1990 to 1997, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, from 1997 to 2002.

Born Mary Therese Winifred Bourke in Ballina, County Mayo, in 1944, she is the daughter of two medical doctors.

He was then married for many years to the former Mary Bourke from 1938 until their divorce a year before his death in 1983.

The youngest son of William Edward Parkinson ( 1871 – 1927 ), an art master at North East County School and from 1913 principal of York School of Arts and Crafts, and his wife, Rose Emily Mary Curnow ( born 1877 ), the young Parkinson attended St. Peter's School, York, where in 1929 he won an Exhibition to study history at Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge.

He also befriended the archaeologist and practicing Pagan Alexander Keiller, known for his excavations at Avebury, who would encourage Gardner to join in with the excavations at Hembury Hill in Devon, also attended by Aileen Fox and Mary Leakey.

For most of Edward's reign, Mary remained on her own estates, and rarely attended court.

Two prominent schools of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City are Bishop McGuinness High School and Mount Saint Mary High School.

The school was originally founded in 1837 by Mary Lyon as Mount Holyoke Female Seminary.

Mount Holyoke's founder, Mary Lyon, is considered by many scholars to be an innovator in the area of women's education.

On February 28, 1987, the United States Postal Service's Great Americans Series issued a postage stamp featuring Mary Lyon, in honor of Mount Holyoke's Sesquicentennial ( Mount Holyoke's 150th anniversary ).
