Ownership of the Amiga line passed through a few companies, from Escom of Germany in 1995, and then to U. S. PC clone maker Gateway in 1997, before an exclusive lifetime license was made to Amiga, Inc., a Washington company founded by former Gateway employees Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss in 2000.

In 1967 the Holt government made the historic decision not to depreciate the Australian dollar in line with Britain's depreciation of the pound sterling, a custom that Australia had previously always followed, but this decision created considerable dissent within the Coalition ; Country Party leader John McEwen was particularly angered by the move — he saw it as a threat to Australia's balance of payments and feared that it would lead to increased production costs for primary industry.

The Governor-General Lord Casey sent for the Country Party leader and Coalition Deputy Prime Minister John McEwen, and he was sworn in as caretaker Prime Minister until such time as the Liberals elected a new leader.

In the interim, on 19 December, McEwen was sworn in as Prime Minister on the understanding that his commission would continue only until such time as the Liberals could elect a new leader.

With McMahon unexpectedly eliminated from the contest, Senator John Gorton was elected Liberal leader on 9 January 1968, and was sworn in as Prime Minister on 10 January, replacing McEwen.

This was the period of the Country Party's greatest power, as was demonstrated in 1962 when McEwen was able to insist that Menzies sack a Liberal Minister who claimed that Britain's entry into the European Economic Community was unlikely to severely impact on the Australian economy as a whole.

McEwen was sworn in as an interim Prime Minister pending the election of the new Liberal leader.

McEwen was prime minister for 23 days, until the election of ( then Senator ) John Gorton.

Sir John " Black Jack " McEwen, GCMG, CH ( 29 March 1900 – 20 November 1980 ), was an Australian politician and the 18th Prime Minister of Australia.

McEwen was born at Chiltern, Victoria to David James McEwen ( died 1907 ), a pharmacist from Ireland, and his second wife Amy Ellen ( née Porter ; died 1901 ).

McEwen was active in farmer organisations and in the Country Party.

When Menzies ' successor, Harold Holt, was officially presumed dead on 19 December 1967, the Governor-General Lord Casey sent for McEwen and he was sworn in as Prime Minister, on the understanding that his commission would continue only so long as it took for the Liberals to elect a new leader.

Approaching 68, McEwen was the oldest person ever to be appointed Prime Minister of Australia, although not the oldest to serve ; Menzies left office two months after his 71st birthday.

But more importantly, McEwen was bitterly opposed to McMahon on political grounds, because McMahon was allied with free trade advocates in the conservative parties and favoured sweeping tariff reforms: a position that was vehemently opposed by McEwen, his Country Party colleagues and their rural constituents.

Survived by his second wife, McEwen died, without heir, on 20 November 1980 at Toorak and was cremated.

Growing up in the Montreal area of Canada, McEwen learned to love opera at an early age, listened to the Met broadcasts, and at age 14, made a trip to New York one winter break to hear several of his favorite operas, which included Bidú Sayão and Jussi Björling in Rigoletto.

He and Doug Anthony were seen as the most likely successors to the veteran Country Party leader John McEwen, but when McEwen retired in 1971, it was Anthony who was elected party Leader, while Sinclair was elected Deputy Leader, becoming at the same time Minister for Primary Industry.

However at the next federal election Sunbury will be moved into the federal seat of McEwen, held by Rob Mithcell.

He married Phyllis McEwen in 1935, a girl from a theatrical family whom he met while she was working with a touring vaudeville production at Weston-super-Mare.

McEwen, who had easily won three terms in the Ohio House, was elected to Congress at the age of thirty to replace a retiring representative in 1980 and easily won re-election five times.

Congressional Quarterly wrote viewers often found " McEwen playing the trusty sidekick Sancho Panza to Bob Dornan of California, both tilting at the latest liberal windmill.

McEwen said that he always had funds available to cover the alleged overdrafts, pointing to the policy of the House sergeant at arms, who ran the House bank, paying checks on an overdrawn account if it would not exceed the sum of the Representative's next paycheck.

In 1991, McEwen had also been criticized for his use of the franking privilege and his frequent trips overseas at taxpayer expense, but McEwen defended the trips as part of his work on the Intelligence Committee and in building relationships with legislatures overseas.

In the Republican primary on March 16, McEwen faced trade lawyer Rob Portman, who had worked in the White House under President George H. W. Bush ; real estate developer Jay Buchert, the president of the National Association of Home Builders ; and several lesser known candidates: real estate appraiser Garland Eugene Crawford of Loveland ; pro-life activist Ken Callis of the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming ; Robert W. Dorsey, a professor at the University of Cincinnati and township trustee in Hamilton County's Anderson Township ; and Ku Klux Klan leader Van Darrell Loman of Cheviot.

Miller also had a strong distaste for McEwen, a Hillsboro Republican in his sixth term who had been elected to Congress at age thirty.

Authors Andrew McEwen and Ed Jocelyn who retraced the route of the Long March, interviewing survivors along the way, said that a woman in her early 80s recalled that local people led the way across the bridge and were all shot and killed.

In 2007 a display case, containing a rotating exhibit of items from the Archives, was installed in the lobby of McEwen Hall, near an iconic sculpture, the " rock swing " that dates from Kirkland's early years.

The local unions supported McEwen and the LPP's platform of support for collective bargaining, family allowance, old age pensions, workers ’ compensation and equality for “ Indians and Eskimos .” Black campaigned on a more left wing platform, promising collective bargaining, minimum wages, maximum-hour and minimum-age laws, paid holidays, unemployment insurance and labour representation on government boards and defeated McEwan by a margin of 162 votes.

After his successor in Congress, Ted Strickland, found election-related files on his office computers, questions were raised about whether McEwen had been illegally using his House office in his re-election campaign in 1992.
