While Jason searched for the Golden Fleece, Hera, who was still angry at Pelias, conspired to make Jason fall in love with Medea, who Hera hoped would kill Pelias.

Alexander the false prophet Aeetes, the king of Colchis and father of the sorceress Medea, possessed the Golden Fleece.

All of the action of the play is at Corinth, where Jason has brought Medea after the adventures of the Golden Fleece.

According to Apollonius of Rhodes, the cave where Macris once lived was later the marriage chamber for Jason and Medea, and the marriage was consummated there on the Golden Fleece.

In Greek mythology, Colchis was the home of Aeëtes and Medea and the destination of the Argonauts ; Colchis is also thought to be the possible homeland of the Amazons.

To free him, Medea impersonated a priestess and demanded he be given to her for sacrifice to appease the gods, as a plague was at the time being visited upon Colchis.

According to the account given by Servius, the goddess was of Greek origin, for Arigitia was the name given by the Marrubians to Medea, who after having left Colchis came to Italy with Jason and taught the people the above mentioned remedies.

" Aeaean " was an epithet of Circe and her niece Medea (), who were the sister and daughter of Aeëtes, the ruler of Aea () in Colchis Circe's son Telegonus is likewise given this epithet.

Apollonius of Rhodes presents a variation on this tradition in Argonautica ( Book 4 ): Jason murdered Medea's brother on one of the ' Brygean Islands ' ( an island sacred to the goddess Artemis and located in the modern Kvarner Gulf ), where he was lured by Medea with false promisestheir first ( and last ) meeting after leaving Colchis.

Alcmene was born to Electryon ( or Alcaeus, Perseus and Andromeda's son ), the son of Perseus and Andromeda, and king of Tiryns and Mycenae or Medea in Argolis.

The vision in the third year of Belshazzar concerning a ram and a male goat ( 8: 1-27 ) which, we are informed, represent Medea, Persia ( the ram's two horns ), and Greece ( the goat ).
