They began working together to return to Earth, where Megatron would predictably attempt to seize their power for himself by uniting with the Autobots to stop the Keepers in return for a favor — which turned out to be asking Optimus to make him the next Prime.

Although Scorponok tried to kill the newly reborn Decepticon Leader, Megatron predictably beat Scorponok brutally for trying to usurp the power of Decepticon Leader, and branded him with a Decepticon symbol.

They kidnapped Perceptor to find the cure to a plague of Cosmic Rust ; after curing the Decepticons Megatron predictably double-crossed the Autobots and sent the Stunticons to prevent the Autobots from acquiring the cure themselves, leading to another battle between Menasor and Superion, which Menasor lost.

When Megatron and the Decepticons predictably broke free, they hooked Ratchet and many of the other Autobots up to a machine that drained their energy to power Megatron's technorganic virus.

Ratchet pulled a double-cross, however, and had the Dinobots attack Megatron instead, resulting in a battle that ended with Megatron's disappearance.

Megatron mortally wounded Prime, but not before Prime delivered his own final blow to Megatron, severely damaging him and forcing the Decepticons to flee.

When Megatron liberated himself from Lazarus's control in 2002, the other Decepticons were soon freed, and Starscream and the other Decepticon jets passed some time by dismembering the Autobot Mini-Bots before joining in an attack on San Francisco, during which they attacked Superion, forcing him to separate.

He then attacks the Reapers single-handedly, forcing Megatron to lead the other Decepticons in assisting him.

Working for the believed dead Megatron, the Sports Car Patrol kidnapped Ratchet by pretending to be Autobots, forcing him to create more Pretenders.

Megatron engineers his own resurrection, however, taking control of Unicron's body and forcing Alpha Q to flee inside Unicron's head, then attacking Ocean City on Earth.

They then controlled all the Decepticons bar Megatron with cerebro-shells, forcing the Decepticon leader to team up with the Autobots to stop his mind-controlled troops.

They failed, forcing Megatron to personally deal with the new Autobot commander.

When a new Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, was chosen, Ravage was sent along with the Insecticons and Soundwave, to attempt to kill him and bring the Matrix to Megatron, but they failed, forcing Megatron to confront Optimus personally.

The Transformers included Generation 1 Tracks, Ariel, Cosmos and Megatron, Beast Wars Tarantulas, Robots in Disguise Sky-Byte and Beast Machines Tankor.

To this end, when Megatron assembled a crew of like-minded Predacons to embark on his voyage to prehistoric Earth, they installed within his group Tarantulas, a mole from the Predacon Secret Police, to examine his operation from the inside.

Tarantulas, Terrorsaur, Blackarachnia and a brainwashed Rhinox would all attempt to overthrow Megatron at some point, although none succeeded for long.

Over time Megatron discovered Tarantulas ' plan to use a stolen transwarp cell, along with a stasis pod from inside the Maximal ship, the Axalon, in order to flee the planet before destruction.

As he struggled to survive, Tarantulas betrayed Megatron by having Quickstrike ( who was using a device to control the massive power of Optimal Optimus ) hurl the helpless Megatron into a lava pit.

Shortly after, as Tarantulas exited The Ark, Megatron rose from the pit, the power of his ancestor's spark having mutated him into a powerful fire and ice breathing dragon form.

Despite this setback, Megatron then began his most daring scheme yet and seized the power of the crashed Decepticon space cruiser, the Nemesis, after discovering that the recently deceased Tarantulas had been repairing it for his own purposes.

Scorponok was arguably the lone original Predacon who was completely loyal to Megatron ; the other 4 original Predacons-Terrorsaur, Tarantulas, Waspinator, and Dinobot-all tried to usurp Megatron's position of leader at one point of the first season.

Megatron refers to Tarantulas in " Nemesis part 1 " as " Unicron's spawn ".

After Megatron and his crew had stolen the Golden Disk Tarantulas was able to decode enough information from the Golden Disk to set a course through Transwarp space-all the while reporting his discoveries to his master on the Tripredacus Council member General Ram Horn.

Megatron often relied on Tarantulas because of his technological and strategic brilliance.

Megatron would eventually discover Tarantulas ' role but, much to Tarantulas ' amusement, could not afford to kill him as he still had need of his talents.

Tarantulas then aided Ravage and the Maximals in capturing Megatron by disabling the defenses of the Darksyde.

When Ravage switched sides after seeing a recording of the original Megatron, Tarantulas also switched sides, helping him to attack the Axalon.

The Transformers included original Tracks, Ariel, Cosmos and Megatron, Beast Wars Tarantulas, Robots in Disguise Sky-Byte and Beast Machines Tankor.

He finally cut all ties with the Predacons when he manipulated the gullible Quickstrike into using Optimus Primal ( who Quickstrike could control via Tarantulas ' control suit gadget ) to kill Megatron, throwing him into a lava pit as he warred for control of the spark of his namesake.

However, his plan was foiled on both fronts — Megatron arose from the pit, mutated by the power of his ancestor into a massive new dragon form, one he quickly used to full effect on the traitor, first roasting him with blasts of fire then telling him that while Megatron could suffer Tarantulas ' treachery, he could not suffer his incompetence ( likely meaning that this action was too much for him tolerate ), and threw him into the lava pit himself, finishing with " Treachery requires NO mistakes ".

Badly damaged and forced into hiding after this, Tarantulas attempted to take over control of Tigerhawk from the Vok, ironically saving Megatron ( Tigerhawk was about to kill him ).

Discovering this, Ravage immediately switched sides along with Tarantulas ( who was working towards his own agenda in any case ), siding with Megatron in attacking the Maximal base.

Megatron and the Decepticons were the ones who developed transformation first, using it to begin the war against the Autobots, who fought back by mimicking the technology.

In the " Return of Convoy " storyline, a new evil force named Dark Nova recovers Galvatron's body, and restores him to life as Super Megatron ( who transformed into a futuristic jet ), pitting him against Star Convoy ( the reborn Optimus Prime ) and his Autobots.

As a result, during his cameo appearance in Beast Wars, Generation 1 Megatron was voiced by series regular Gary Chalk, who also provided the voice of the heroic Maximal leader Optimus Primal.

Unlike many of the other Transformers ( who were given World War II vehicle alternate modes ) Megatron would keep his basic Walther P-38 handgun transformation, which was indeed a WWII German handgun.

The Transformers comics printed by Devil's Due Publishing, Megatron was again among the Decepticons who crashed on in the Ark on Earth, but this time the Ark was discovered by the terrorist group Cobra, who reformatted the Autobots and Decepticons into weapons and vehicles for themselves called Battle Android Troopers controlled by the Televipers.

Those who joined Megatron included Laserbeak, Ramjet, Ravage, Skywarp, Soundwave, Starscream and the Constructicons.

Megatron also reactivated Thrust, Dirge and Thundercracker, but the three left him to join up with Bludgeon's troops — mostly because they couldn't work with Starscream, who had killed them once.

Due to the interference of Ravage ( the same future Ravage who appears in the Beast Wars ), most of the events of the original animated feature do not transpire ; most importantly the Battle of Autobot City does not occur, and Optimus Prime and Megatron do not have their final showdown, meaning that Optimus Prime does not die, and Megatron is never reformatted into Galvatron.

Megatron turned on Pax and fatally injured him, but the ancient Autobot, Alpha Trion, then rebuilt Pax into the first of a new, battle-hardy breed of Autobot-now, he was Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, who led them against Megatron and the Decepticons as the civil war erupted once more.

Megatron was then found by Unicron who offered to rebuild him in return for destroying the Autobot Matrix of Leadership.

Megatron was reformed into Galvatron who returned to Cybertron, destroyed Starscream for his treacherry and reassumed command of the Decpticons.

After the death of Cliffjumper, the Autobots fight to protect the Earth from the Decepticons and befriend three young humans and the returned Megatron who has been missing for three Earth years.

As a friend of the Constructicons, he was hurt the most when they were attacked by Megatron, who, seeking to bolster the forces of his then-small army, subjected the Constructicons to the Robo-Smasher, a device which reprogrammed their minds and turned them into Decepticons.

On the return trip to Cybertron, it was Bonecrusher who advocated the " survival of the fittest " policy that saw many wounded Decepticons ejected from the shuttle, among them Megatron, prompting Scrapper to nominate the Constructicons for the new leaders of the Decepticons.

The third seeming contradiction emerges in the third season, with the episode " Five Faces of Darkness, Part Four ", in which Rodimus Prime witnesses Megatron's creation in a flashback, and the animation shows the Constructicons surrounding him, however later fiction reveals that there were many Constructicons on Cybertron, and the ones who made Megatron need not have been the ones who formed Devastator.

Under Grimlock's command, they formed the Earthforce, a pro-active Autobot group based in Canada who regularly battled the two Decepticon forces under the commands of Megatron and Shockwave.

In the story Crossing Over by Fun Publications Grimlock was among Autobot troops of Optimus Prime who responded to the sighting of Megatron and arrived in time to save the dimensional traveling Autobot Skyfall from Megatron's wraith.

Formerly a scientist, Starscream is a treacherous, high-ranking Decepticon who turns into a jet and is known to often challenge his leader Megatron for leadership of the Decepticons.

In Generation 2 Starscream had been deactivated in the crash of the Ark, but Megatron, who had also been on board, was the only survivor, and over the next few years, restored the Ark, entering into a deal with the human terrorist organization, Cobra, which helped him obtain a new body and weapons.

The Combaticon take over forced another uneasy alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons, who fought Bruticus and ultimately defeated him, thanks to a weak spot revealed by Starscream in exchange for Megatron not killing him on the spot.
