A 1977 film version of the story, starring Oliver Reed as Miles Hendon, co-starring Rex Harrison as Duke of Norfolk, Mark Lester and Raquel Welch, and directed by Richard Fleischer, was released in the UK as The Prince and the Pauper but in the US under the title Crossed Swords.

As a result of his team's performance during his second year, Miles was named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year by the Associated Press in 2002.

For his efforts Miles was won the 2011 Associated Press College Football Coach of the Year Award becoming the second LSU coach, after Nick Saban in 2003, to win the award.

The Miles College Football Team won the inaugural SIAC 2011 Championship, under the leadership of Coach Reginald Ruffin.

He played an important role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, free jazz and jazz fusion, and collaborated extensively with Miles Davis.
