Whipple shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1934 with George Richards Minot and William Parry Murphy " for their discoveries concerning liver therapy in cases of anemia.

William Parry Murphy ( Stoughton, Wisconsin, February 6, 1892 – October 9, 1987 ) was an American physician who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1934 with George Richards Minot and George Hoyt Whipple for their combined work in devising and treating macrocytic anemia ( specifically, pernicious anemia ).

George Richards Minot ( December 2, 1885 – February 25, 1950 ) was an American medical researcher who shared the 1934 Nobel Prize with George Hoyt Whipple and William P. Murphy for their pioneering work on pernicious anemia.

Minot won the 1934 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with William P. Murphy and George H. Whipple for their work in the study of anemia.

William P. Murphy, George Whipple and George Minot discover that liver extracts cure pernicious anemia, previously a rapidly fatal illness.

It was then part of Minot, set off from Poland and incorporated in 1802.

He then earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and was a banker in Minot, North Dakota prior to pursuing a political career.

George Minot and William Murphy then set about to partly isolate the curative property in liver, and in 1926 showed it was contained in raw liver juice ( in the process also showing it was the iron in liver tissue, not the soluble factor in liver juice, which cured the anemia from bleeding in dogs ; thus, the discovery of the liver juice factor as a treatment for pernicious anemia had been by coincidence ).

Whipple studied at Occidental College in Southern California, then majored in mathematics at the University of California at Los Angeles, graduating in 1927.

Mr. Whipple is seen looking off-camera at a female customer, commenting that first she's squeezing the grapefruits, then she's squeezing the melons, and then ( in a classic comic " triple ") when she gets to the Charmin, that's the last straw, and he walks over to her and utters his famous plea " Please don't squeeze the Charmin!
