Mir Damad () ( d. 1631 or 1632 ), known also as Mir Mohammad Baqer Esterabadi, or Asterabadi, was an Iranian philosopher in the Neoplatonizing Islamic Peripatetic traditions of Avicenna and Suhrawardi, a scholar of the traditional Islamic sciences, and foremost figure ( together with his student Mulla Sadra ), of the cultural renaissance of Iran undertaken under the Safavid dynasty.

He was called Mir Damad ( Groom of the King ) because he married Shah Abbas's daughter and hence his fame was based on that event.

It was found by many famous Persian philosophers, most notably Mir Damad, Sheykh Bahaee and Mir Fendereski.

The most notable figures of this era are Mir Damad and his student Mulla Sadra.

According to Stephen Suleyman Schwartz, in his book " The Two Faces of Islam ", “ some say that during this vagabondage Ibn Abdul Wahhab came into contact with certain Englishmen who encouraged him to personal ambition as well as to a critical attitude about Islam .” Specifically, Mir ’ at al Harramin, a Turkish work by Ayyub Sabri Pasha, written in 1888, states that in Basra, Abdul Wahhab had come into contact with a British spy by the name of Hempher, who “ inspired in him the tricks and lies that he had learned from the British Ministry of the Commonwealth .”

According to Kanjuti traditions, as related by McMahon, the Mir ’ s eighth ancestor, Shah Salim Khan pursued nomadic Khirghiz thieves to Tashkurghan and defeated them.

The Mir ’ s claims went a good deal beyond a mere right of cultivation.
