VII Corps formed in France on 14 July 1915 under the command of Lt-General Thomas D ' Oyly Snow ( previously commander of 27th Division ) as part of Sir Charles Monro's Third Army on the Western Front.

The great reputation attained by Monro's work did much to increase the fame of the new school of medicine on Edinburgh.

Monro's immediate problem on his appointment was the Fenian bombing campaign.

Monro's grandson, Ander Monro, has played for the Canada national rugby union team.

During Monro's tenure as Professor of Anatomy, Edinburgh was rocked by scandal due to the notorious " Burke and Hare murders " in which healthy individuals were intentionally killed in order to supply cadavers for dissection by anatomy lecturers and their students.

Monro's original appointment as professor was only at the pleasure of the Town Council, but in 1722, encouraged by his success, he applied for a permanent status, and although the council had as lately as August 1719 reaffirmed the principle that regentships and professor ships were to be held at their pleasure, nevertheless they departed from it and by resolution of March 14, 1722, nominated Alexander Monro sole Professor of Anatomy in the City and College.

Christopher Monro was told this by his father Douglas Monro, who had examined Monro's papers after his death.

Home Secretary Henry Matthews accepted Monro's resignation in September and replaced him with Anderson.

Monro's first wife died in 1994 ; later that year, he married a second time, to Doris Kaestner, a friend of his first wife.

When word arrived in late July that the French had mobilized to attack the fort, another 1, 000 regulars and militia arrived, swelling Monro's force to about 2, 300 effective troops.

Among Monro's publications are " Outlines of the Anatomy of the Human Body " ( 1811 ) in four volumes and " Elements of Anatomy " ( 1825 ) in two volumes.

Monro's cavalry then charged the Irish infantry, but were unable to break the Confederates ' pike and musket formation.

Many patients from Scotland came to consult Boerhaave, and were put under Monro's care.

Warren also tried to assert his authority over CID, which his predecessor, Sir Edmund Henderson, had left almost entirely in Monro's hands.
