After many difficulties in the three first campaigns resulting from the insubordination of Portuguese officers, Schomberg won the victory of Montes Claros on 17 June 1665 over the Spaniards under Luis de Benavides Carrillo, Marquis of Caracena.

Montes Claros is a city located in northern Minas Gerais state, in Brazil.

In 2011, the most famous Brazilian magazine entitled Veja, published a report including Montes Claros as an example of richness and welfare in the recent Brazilian's economy good moment.

In 1831 the town had grown and become Vila de Montes Claros de Formigas.

By 1857, Vila Montes Claros de Formigas had around 2, 000 inhabitants and became the city of Montes Claros.

Montes Claros is also recognized nationally as the capital of Carne de Sol, a local jerky-like dry beef and Arroz com Pequi, a very popular meal that is made of rice and Pequi.

According to CAGED ( Cadastro Geral de Empregados e Desempregados ), Montes Claros is ranked # 3 in the list of the cities of the state of Minas Gerais in number of employmenting people, only behind Belo Horizonte and Uberlândia.

There are two public universities: Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros ( Unimontes ) and a campus of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais ( UFMG ), and five private colleges: Universidade Norte do Paraná ( Unopar ), Faculdades Pitágoras, Faculdades Unidas do Norte de Minas ( FUNORTE ), Faculdade de Ciência e Tecnologia de Montes Claros ( Facit ), Faculdade de Saúde Ibituruna, and Faculdades Santo Agostinho.

In La Mancha, specifically in the Montes Universales, gaspachos are made with small game and flatbread “ crumbled ” on the pan where the meat is stewed.

In the oldest documented map of the island, created by Andrés de Morales, that region is named Montes de Haití (" Haiti Mountains ").

The southern portion of the Meseta () is further divided by twin mountain ranges, the Montes de Toledo running to the east with the Sierra de Guadalupe, to the west.

On the old townhall a Latin inscription is still visible: Montes argentum mihi dant nomenque Tridentum (" Mountains give me silver and the name of Trento "), attributed to Fra ' Bartolomeo da Trento ( died in 1251 ).

The " Lola Montes Polka " composed by Albert Denning was later rumoured to have been inspired by this event, but as the song was published in 1855 and the incident with Seekamp occurred months later in February 1856, this is scarcely probable.

The source of the Tagus is the Fuente de García, in the Montes Universales, Sistema Ibérico, Sierra de Albarracín Comarca.

To the northwest of the mare is the Montes Riphaeus mountain range, part of the rim of the buried crater or basin containing the mare.

Montes Pyrenaeus borders the mare to the west and the large crater near the south center of the mare is known as Rosse.

The ring feature to the west of the mare is indistinct, except for Montes Haemus.

The mare is bordered by the mountain range Montes Apenninus.

Montes Haemus is a curving range of mountains that forms the southwestern edge of the Mare Serenitatis basin on the Moon.

Montes Riphaeus ( latin for " Riphaeus Mountains ") is an irregular range of lunar mountains that lie along the west-northwestern edge of Mare Cognitum, on the southeastern edge of Oceanus Procellarum.

He is also the reputed author of El Prodigio de los Montes, from which Calderón derived El Mágico prodigioso.

Several volcanic centers northeast of the Tharsis Montes also form part of the line.

Several satellite craters also lie throughout the Montes Taurus.

The Montes Taurus mountain range is also the location of the Taurus-Littrow valley, the landing site of the manned Apollo 17 mission.

The Astures or Asturs, also named ' Astyrs ' were the Hispano-Celtic Gallaecian inhabitants of the northwest area of Hispania that now comprises almost the entire modern autonomous community of Asturias and the modern provinces León, and northern Zamora ( all in Spain ), and east of Trás os Montes in Portugal.

Some researches are also trying to connect Serb name with other somewhat similar names such are Siberia ( region in Russia ), Sibiru ( island near Sumatra ), Seri or Sereri ( ancient people in Central Asia ), Montes Serrorum ( old name for Carpathians ), Sarmatia ( ancient region in Eastern Europe ), Sirmium ( city in ancient Pannonia ), etc.

A montera is the hat traditionally worn by many males and females in the folk costumes of the Iberian peninsula. It has come to name also but not exclusively the ones used by bullfighters, introduced to the ritual event in 1835 by Francisco ' Paquiro ' Montes as accompaniment to the traje de luces, or " suit of lights ".
