Comoros ' largest cities were the capital, Moroni, with about 30, 000 people, and the port city of Mutsamudu, on the island of Nzwani, with about 20, 000 people.

Both Moroni on Njazidja and Mutsamudu on Nzwani have artificial harbors.

The Angel Moroni () is, in Mormonism, an angel that visited Joseph Smith, Jr. on numerous occasions, beginning on September 21, 1823.

Nevertheless, based on Smith's statement that the angel was " Moroni ," and based on both prior and later publications, most Latter Day Saints view Smith's 1838 identification of the angel as Nephi as a mistake, perhaps on the part of the transcriber or a later editor.

Joseph Smith, Jr. ( who would later become the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement ) said that on the night of September 21, 1823, Moroni appeared to Smith and told him about the Golden Plates that were buried ( in a stone box ) a few miles from Smith's home ; visited Smith various times over the course of the next six years ; and after Smith translated a portion of the writing on the plates ( either one-third or two-thirds ; accounts vary ) as the Book of Mormon, Smith turned the plates back over to Moroni.

Moroni then finished writing on the plates and concluded his record, presumably burying them in the hill Cumorah in western New York.

Because of his instrumentality in the restoration of the gospel, Moroni is commonly identified by Latter-day Saints as the angel mentioned in, " having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.

Millard F. Malin's angel, which was placed on the Los Angeles California Temple in 1953 ( dedicated 1956 ) is known as the second Angel Moroni statue.

Avard Fairbanks sculpted the third Angel Moroni statue which was placed on the Washington D. C. Temple, dedicated in 1974.

Quilter's Angel Moroni is on over one hundred temples around the world.

* 1823 – Joseph Smith, Jr. states he found the Golden plates on this date after being directed by God through the Angel Moroni to the place where they were buried.

Smith visited the hill each year on the fall equinox ( September 22 ) between 1823 and 1827 and claimed to be instructed by the angel Moroni.

The purposes of the aid ranged from helping the government cover its payroll for such huge, seemingly endless projects as expanding the seaport at Moroni and developing a new port at Mutsamuda on Nzwani.

Only small vessels can approach the existing quays in Moroni on Grande Comore, despite recent improvements.

Gregory XVI made great expenditures for defensive, architectural and engineering works, and he lavished patronage on such scholars as Angelo Mai, Giuseppe Mezzofanti, and Gaetano Moroni.

Moroni 10 contains some of the most well-known and most often quoted verses in the Book of Mormon.

Though there is some uncertainty regarding his studio, he took on a number of pupils the most important of whom was the portraitist Giovanni Battista Moroni ( c. 1520-1578 ).

He makes convincing arguments against the thesis supported by Hockney's book “ Secret Knowledge: Rediscovering the Lost Techniques of the Old Masters ” that optical projection techniques aided many artist's paintings beginning in the early 15th century, particularly beginning some time between 1420 – 1595, citing variously Fabriano, Jan van Eyck, Pisanello, Mantegna, Melozzo di Forli, Cranach, Raphael and Moroni.

Moroni is thought by Latter Day Saints to be the same person as a Book of Mormon prophet-warrior named Moroni, who was the last to write in the golden plates.

In Smith's 1832 history, he said he was visited by " an angel of the Lord ", who mentioned the Book of Mormon prophet " Moroni " as the last engraver of the golden plates ; however, Smith's account did not say whether or not the angel was referring to himself as Moroni.

Around this time, Oliver Cowdery was writing a history of Joseph Smith in which he identified the angel as the prophet Moroni from the Book of Mormon.

According to the Book of Mormon, Moroni was the son of Mormon, the prophet for whom the Book of Mormon is ostensibly named.

He may have been named after Captain Moroni, a much earlier Book of Mormon figure.

* Some Latter Day Saints recognise it as " Trumpet Day ," or the day that Joseph Smith received the golden plates, which later became the Book of Mormon, from the angel Moroni.

In addition to the historical events outlined above, the Book of Ether contains several interpolations by Moroni, regarding points of doctrine or lessons illuminated by the actions of the Jaredites, such as how faith works and the importance of following Jesus Christ to be blessed as a nation.

The book was abridged by Moroni onto the plates from which the Book of Mormon was later translated into English by Joseph Smith.

The Book of Mormon declares: “ Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness ; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God ,” ( Moroni 10: 32-33 ) illustrating the need for compliance with the laws and ordinances of the gospel and the need for the pure love of Christ in conjunction with the receipt of the gift of grace, which comes “ after all we can do ” ( 2 Nephi 25: 23 ).

Joseph Smith, Jr. lived in the area and stated he was led by the angel Moroni to his source for the Book of Mormon, the golden plates, near Palmyra, New York.

In 1830, Smith published The Book of Mormon, which LDS members believe he translated through divine means from the Golden Plates that he obtained from the angel Moroni.

Moroni is an important figure in the theology of the Latter Day Saint movement, and is featured prominently in Mormon architecture and art.

Among those angels, the revelation listed " Moroni, whom I have sent unto you to reveal the book of Mormon, containing the fulness of my everlasting gospel ; to whom I have committed the keys of the record of the stick of Ephraim " ( id .).

Moroni, the person who deposited the plates, from whence the book of Mormon was translated, in a hill in Manchester, Ontario County, New York, as a resurrected being, appeared unto me, and told me where they were ; and gave me directions how to obtain them.
