2 Maccabees 2: 4-10, written around 100 BC, says that the prophet Jeremiah, " being warned by God " before the Babylonian invasion, took the Ark, the Tabernacle, and the Altar of Incense, and buried them in a cave on Mount Nebo ( Jordan ), informing those of his followers who wished to find the place that it should remain unknown " until the time that God should gather His people again together, and receive them unto mercy.

He then went up Mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah, looked over the promised land of Israel spread out before him, and died, at the age of one hundred and twenty, according to Talmudic legend on 7 Adar, his 120th birthday exactly.

Abarim ( Hebrew: ה ָ ר ֵ י ה ָ ע ֲ ב ָ ר ִ ים, Har Ha -' Avarim, Harei Ha -' Avarim ; Septuagint to oros to Abarim, en to peran tou Iordanou, mountain Abarim, mountains of Abarim ) is a mountain range across Jordan, to the east and south-east of the Dead Sea, extending from Mount Nebo — its highest point — in the north, perhaps to the Arabian desert in the south.

Its northern part was called Phasga ( or Pisgah ), and the highest peak of Phasga was Mount Nebo ( Numbers 23: 14 ; 27: 12 ; 21: 20 ; 32: 47 ; Deuteronomy 3: 27 ; 34: 1 ; 32: 49 ).

From " the top of Pisgah ," i. e., Mount Nebo, an area which belonged to Moab, Moses surveyed the Promised Land ( Deuteronomy 3: 27 ; 32: 49 ), and there he died ( 34: 1, 5 ).

The elevation ranges from above sea level at the lake to at the peak of Mount Nebo.

In the north are a number of long, deep ravines, and Mount Nebo, famous as the scene of the death of Moses.

Whittaker ( 1987 ) proposes that it was Mount Nebo primarily on the basis that it was the location where Moses viewed the promised land and a parallelism in Jesus ' words on descent from the mountain of transfiguration ; " You will say to this mountain ( i. e. of transfiguration ), ‘ Move from here to there ,’ ( i. e. the promised land ) and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

Other notable peaks in this region include Mount Nebo, Pinnacle Mountain, and Sugarloaf Knob.

At, Mount Nebo, a triple peak rising above Nephi, Utah at the southern end of the range, is the highest peak of the Wasatch.

The only Carthusian monastery in the United States is the Charterhouse of the Transfiguration, located on Mount Equinox near Arlington, Vermont.

The Stella Maris gondola lift cable car consists of six cabins and connects Bat Galim on the coast to the Stella Maris observation deck and monastery atop Mount Carmel ; although mainly for tourism purposes.
