His films MASH ( 1970 ), McCabe and Mrs. Miller ( 1971 ), and Nashville ( 1975 ) have been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Now recognized as a major talent, Altman had critical breakthroughs with McCabe & Mrs. Miller ( 1971 ), known for its gritty portrayal of the American frontier ; The Long Goodbye ( 1973 ), a remake of a Raymond Chandler novel ; Thieves Like Us ( 1974 ), and Nashville ( 1975 ).

He noted on the DVD commentary of McCabe & Mrs. Miller ( 1971 ) that he uses this technique, together with leaving elements of the plot for the audience to infer, because he wants people to pay attention and become engaged in the film.

On September 19, 1966, the conglomerate W. R. Grace and Company agreed to buy 53 % of Miller from Mrs. Lorraine John Mulberger ( Frederick Miller's granddaughter, who objected to alcohol ) and her family.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller is a 1971 American Western film starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, and directed by Robert Altman.

While the townspeople fight a fire in the chapel, McCabe dies in the snow and Mrs. Miller visits a Chinese opium den.

The complaint prompted a name change to John Mac Cabe but it was further changed and released as McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

In the film, Mrs. Miller is brought into town on a J. I.

A few years later, he visited Paris, just after finishing shooting on McCabe & Mrs. Miller, and rediscovered Cohen's album ; he had it transferred and used the music to maintain a rhythm for the film ( in effect using it as a " temp " track ).

McCabe & Mrs. Miller was acknowledged as the eighth best film in the Western genre.

The original script was written by Joan Tewkesbury, who had collaborated with Altman on several of his films, including McCabe and Mrs. Miller and Thieves Like Us.

It was developed by Dr. George McAnelly Miller, an attorney and professor at Ruskin College in Trenton, Missouri, and Mrs. Adaline D. Miller.

Mrs. Adaline D. Miller, ( Dr. Miller's wife ) founded a post office on August 7, 1908.

In 1932, the golf course opened as a private nine-hole course leased to Dr. Calvin Miller from Mrs. Dorothy Fuller, the Colonel ’ s widow.

The name was influenced by Robert Altman's film McCabe & Mrs. Miller ( 1971 ), which featured the Leonard Cohen song " Sisters of Mercy " ( from the album Songs of Leonard Cohen ) (" because ourselves The Captains of Industry wouldn't have been as funny ").
