Blifil now quite rightly, as the narrator points out, suspects that Mrs Western may have turned against his cause.

She then meets Mrs Western ( they are cousins ), and the former tells the latter about Lord Fellamar's attachment to Sophia.

Mrs Western refers to Blifil as ' a hideous kind of fellow ' with nothing but fortune to recommend him.
