In 1881 the First Hebrew Congregation of Oakland, elected Myer Solomon Levy as its rabbi.

General Myer gave the National Weather Service its first name: The Division of Telegrams and Reports for the Benefit of Commerce.

On September 1, 1970, the United States Postal Service issued its first day cover of a postcard celebrating the 100th anniversary of Weather Services at Fort Myer.

In Adelaide, in 1925, the company Myer SA Stores Ltd acquired a controlling interest in Marshall's department store and its shares continued to be listed on the Adelaide Stock Exchange until Myer Emporium Ltd made a successful takeover bid in 1966.

Myer grew by developing its own stores ( becoming one of Australia's major property owners and developers in the process ) and acquiring other department stores, including Adelaide's Marshall's, Western Australia's Boans in 1984, Queensland's Barry and Roberts and in New South Wales they acquired Western Stores, Farmers & Co in 1961 and Grace Brothers in 1983.

In 1985 the Myer Emporium ( and Target, its discount department store ) merged with GJ Coles & Coy forming Coles Myer Limited, then Australia's largest retailer.

In 2003, one of the key changes made by the recently appointed Managing Director, Dawn Robertson, was to classify each Myer Grace Bros. store using a grid system referencing the socio-economic status of the area, its turnover and growth potential.

In April 2004, Myer re-opened its Bondi Junction, New South Wales, store which replaced a former Grace Bros. store closed in April 2002 to make way for the redevelopment of Westfield Bondi Junction.

In February 2004, Myer held its Sydney fashion parade the day before David Jones.

The MYER one program was introduced in August 2004 after Coles Myer discontinued its shareholder discount card the previous month.

Following its sale, Myer relaunched the Myer card in October 2006 in conjunction with GE Money.

Myer stated it was prepared to wear losses from the card for two years and that its objective was to drive increased loyalty from the card ( which links with the Myer One card ) rather than being profitable in its own right.

In July 2008, Myer stated it planned to expand into the Middle East and open its first overseas store in Dubai, but by March 2009 had put such plans on hold.

In total, at the time of launching its prospectus, Myer stated it had signed conditional lease agreements for 12 locations to open progressively from 2010 to 2013 with a plan to reach 80 stores by 2014.

Virgin has not renewed its concession agreement with Myer and from mid August 2010, Virgin entertainment ceased operations within Myer stores.

A large percentage of burials in Arlington National Cemetery originate from Old Post Chapel, one of the two chapels on Fort Myer.

Notable 19th-century alumni included Albert James Myer, Class of 1847, a military officer assigned to run the United States Weather Bureau at its inception, was a founding member of the International Meteorological Organization, and helped birth the U. S. Signal Corps, and for whom Fort Myer, Va., is named ; General E. S. Bragg of the Class of 1848, colonel of the Sixth Wisconsin Regiment and a brigadier general in command of the Iron Brigade who served one term in Congress and later was ambassador to Mexico and consul general of the U. S. in Cuba ; two other 1848 graduates, Clarence Seward and Thomas M. Griffith, who were assistant secretary of state and builder of the first national railroad across the Mississippi River, respectively ; and Charles J. Folger, Class of 1836, a United States Secretary of the Treasury in the 1880s.

Myer withdrew from the Coles Group part-owned flybuys rewards program on 1 February 2007.

The program is broadcast live every Christmas Eve by the Nine Network from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Australia-wide.

In March 1967, the Seekers returned to Australia for a homecoming tour, which included a performance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, attended by an estimated audience of 200, 000.

In February 2009, SBS TV programme RocKwiz hosted a 50th anniversary concert for the Myer Music Bowl, RocKwiz Salutes the Bowl, which included " World of Our Own " performed by Rebecca Barnard and Billy Miller and " The Carnival Is Over " by Durham.

Also, in August of that year, all Virgin At Myer concept stores closed due to Sanity Entertainment not renewing their contract with Myer Limited and were either closed or converted back into a basic audio / visual department operated by Myer ( in 2011, these non-branded audio / visual departments were later closed by Myer anyway ).

The medals were presented posthumously to the next of kin of each of the Four Chaplains by Secretary of the Army Wilber M. Brucker at Ft. Myer, Virginia on January 18, 1961.
