Arne Næss, Jr. ( 8 December 1937 – 13 January 2004 ) was a Norwegian businessman and mountaineer.

Næss ' mother, whose maiden name he would adopt as his own surname, was the sister of philosopher and mountaineer Arne Næss.

Outside of logic and metaphysics, Sylvan was a proponent of so-called deep environmental ethics in the study of environmental ethics ( following shallow / deep distinction formulated by Arne Næss ).

The mountain was first climbed in 1950 by a Norwegian expedition consisting of Arne Næss, P. Kvernberg, H. Berg, and Tony Streather.

Protesting against the government turning several waterfalls into powerplants, he was carried away by police together with other prominent protestors like philosopher Arne Næss.

He was also portrayed by Norwegian actor Petter Næss in the 2008-movie Max Manus.

Confusion as to the meaning ( suggesting that such a meaning should be singular and exact ) of ecosophy is primarily the consequence of it being used to designate different and often contradictory ( though conceptually related ) concepts by the Norwegian father of deep ecology, Arne Næss, and French post-Marxist philosopher and psychoanalyst Félix Guattari.

With the British Ministry of War Transport and the US War Shipping Administration coordinating their policies in the Hogmanay agreement, Nortraship and its chief negotiator, Erling Dekke Næss had a hard fight to protect Norwegian interests.

In 1927 Næss got to know Rupert Trouton, and he presented Næss with a plan to buy control of his father-in-law's whaling enterprise, the Norwegian company A / S Hektor.

Næss was back in London in March 1935, and though the market was still down it had improved, due to large purchases of whale oil by the German government.

Næss managed to have a meeting on 8 April 1940 with the Norwegian Foreign Minister, Halvdan Koht and woke up the day after, 9 April with the German invasion of Oslo, seeing the German transport planes landing at the Fornebu airport from his brother Arne Næss's house in Holmenkollen.

Næss was pessimistic about Norway's chances towards the German invasion and escaped Oslo on 10 April, heading westwards by air.
