The university has launched its five-year strategic blueprint, NTU 2015, to scale Five Peaks of Excellence – Sustainable Earth, Future Healthcare, New Media, New Silk Road and Innovation Asia – and set new global benchmarks in research, education and innovation.

NTU has multi-national programmes and initiatives with institutions worldwide.

According to Academic Ranking of World Universities ( ARWU ), in 2011, NTU has ranked 45 in Computer Science.

As of June 2006, AIC has commenced a joint-project with Singapore's NTU to develop the CACANI system, a software that generates inbetweens from keyframes.

NTU has established industrial links with a number of national and multinational companies including Microsoft, Toyota, Boots, Experian and Rolls Royce

Since 1998 NTU has awarded a number of business and law degrees for Griffith College Dublin, Ireland.

The former two universities have strong engineering programs, and NTU also has a highly-regarded medical school located in the Zhongzheng District.

NTU also provides information on " Congressional & Executive Pay / Perks " ( e. g., NTU estimates the public pensions payments for Members of Congress ), and NTU has called for reforms to deny a publicly-funded pension to Members of Congress convicted of a felony.

NTU is technically a distinct institution from the old Nanyang University, and has a distinctively different culture from the former institution although the name Nanyang continues to be used.

The administration of NTU has long resisted this move, and the idea receives a lukewarm response from the alumni and current students of the new institution.

Most opposition stems from concerns over confusion in the market and the effect it may have on the industry goodwill NTU has cultivated over the years.

They are an ambitious Campus Master Plan, which will integrate teaching, research, residential and recreational functions campus-wide to foster greater interactivity among members of the NTU community, and a makeover of undergraduate education with holistic changes to the curriculum and campus environment.

NTU initiated its makeover of the undergraduate experience to give NTU students the edge in tomorrow's global economy – as creative leaders with a strong social conscience, a love for learning, strong leadership and teamwork skills, and familiarity with real-world issues such as new sustainability challenges.

* The university entered into a partnership with Kaplan Inc. to form the " Nottingham Trent International College " ( NTIC ) which, through foundation courses and pre-masters courses, helps international students to progress to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at NTU and other UK universities.

This high-speed wireless network, capable of a transfer rate of up to 11 megabits per second, enables NTU staff and students equipped with mobile devices such as notebooks, PCs and PDAs to access all networked services from practically anywhere on the campus without the need of a hardwired network connection.

Outstanding students may be offered the chance to participate in prestigious external research programmes such as the Science Mentorship Programme ( NUS ), Nanyang Research Programme ( NTU / NIE ), Young Defence Scientists ' Programme ( DSTA ), National Weather Study Project, Moot Parliament Programme and the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Programme ( NUS ).

Times Higher Education's world university rankings place NTU in the 50th position according to its 2011-2012 Engineering and Technology subject ranking.

In 2013, NTU will accept its first batch of medical undergraduates at its new joint medical school with Imperial College London, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, which received philanthropic support of S $ 400 million within months of its establishment in Singapore.
