* March 13 – Nana Phadnavis, Maratha statesman ( b. 1742 )

The British and the Marathas enjoyed more than two decades of peace, thanks to the diplomacy of Nana Phadnavis, the Brahmin minister in the court of the 11-year-old Peshwa Baji Rao II.

It is a modest yet graceful temple and it dates back to 13th century and the sabhamandap developed in 18th century by Nana Phadnavis.

The shikhara was built by Nana Phadnavis.

The Gopura-shikharam of the temple was built by Nana Phadnavis.

Twelve Maratha chiefs, led by Nana Phadnavis directed an effort to name the infant as the new Peshwa and rule under him as regents.

In 1777 Nana Phadnavis violated the treaty with the Calcutta Council by granting the French a port on the west coast.

This act brought ill fame to the Peshwa administration, now being looked after by the minister Nana Phadnavis.
